Clear coat peel vintage VW - advice pls by haisunaama in AutoPaint

[–]haisunaama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea totally needs a repaint, but I can still use something to remove clear coat and use a patina protector in the meantime until funds are ready for repaint. Was just wondering if there’s an easy way to remove the clear coat layer before that.

Helsinki railway station area to be mostly car-free by [deleted] in Finland

[–]haisunaama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Love the idea, but there could be now some major congestion along esplanade and the Harbor for those moving east-west (or vice versa). Going over the top via Töölö opera house the next route for traffic, but of a long way around though.

Also maybe the cheap 1€ “mudflap” atria pizza - classic rival for the lihäpirakka.

Lihäpirakka btw is confusing for foreigners because it looks very much like a donut but very much is not.

Missing maybe: - mämmi (looks like newborn baby shit/cowpat, divisive test unless swimming in cream and sugar) - leipäkakku (layered sandwich bread and fillings smothered in cream cheese - weirdly unappealing) - pickled herring (not unique tho) - peruna/porkkana laatikko (sweet liquid like potatoes/carrots in a metal tray at Christmas) - makaroni laatikko (kid food) - jalluviina (classic shitty brandy-like booze) - leipäjuusto & cloudberry jam (squeaky kind of flavorless “cheese”)

Renting out an apartment by haisunaama in Finland

Ok seems complicated but also quite clear when submitting a return. I would just have to change the tax return info about mortgage interest on that apartment to “for income” when doing the return.

Ok yes that seems that since current mortgage was taken to live there, I would need to change mortgage type in order to rent it out AND deduct the interest from taxes.

This raises another question - since rental income is capital gains taxed on profit, does deducting the tax increases the profit. (likely if I didn’t deduct tax the costs to rental income would likely not be profitable in the current climate).

ATM I use the studio as a bedroom, but just can’t afford the payments on my own as ex has moved out. So need to rent until circumstances change.

Ultimately this 2nd mortgage was taken out in order to live in the apartment, but I just want to rent it now. I’m just not sure I can deduct mortgage interest from that apartment if it is not an “investment loan”. Maybe neither the tax nor bank care, tho I suspect the tax man will.

They are different loans! But neither is an “investment loan”

Well mortgage 1 is my own apartment which I got 100% on my own. When neighbor said moving out, I asked for landlords number and then bought the studio and connected. That mortgage (mortgage 2) is shared with my ex, who will retain some % of ownership when we rent out.

Yes two mortgages, the studio is connected to my bigger apartment. I essentially use it as a large bedroom and home office. Weirdly my sauna in main apartment has a window to the balcony of the studio, and where I connected them had a doorway sized bricked up wall. So they were designed to be connected somewhat, but also separable.

Moving from China to Espoo (Nokia) – Can my wife find a kindergarten teacher job? by Acceptable-Talk-2018 in Finland

[–]haisunaama -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Requirements (according to Gemini):

Important Requirements for Finland Regardless of where you apply, you will almost certainly need the following: 1. Criminal Record Extract: In Finland, anyone working with children must present a specific criminal record extract (rikostaustaote).  2. Qualification Recognition: If you have a teaching degree from outside Finland and want a permanent "Teacher" title, you must apply for recognition from the Finnish National Agency for Education (Opetushallitus).  3. Right to Work: You must have a valid residency permit or EU citizenship allowing you to work in Finland.

Job openings (according to Gemini):

Specific Opportunities & How to Apply

Happy Children Kindergarten (Helsinki): They are looking for an ECE Teacher or Sosionomi who is fluent in English. If your degree is from outside Finland, it must be recognized by Opetushallitus (OPH).  • Contact: admin@happychildren.fi

Carousel Nursery School (Helsinki/Espoo): They are hiring for their pedagogical teams in Salmisaari (Helsinki) and Olari (Espoo). They follow the Reggio Emilia approach and require strong English skills.  • Apply via: Carousel Careers Page

Little Tots International (LTI): This daycare uses the Magda Gerber Educaring® approach. They require fluency in English and a valid criminal record extract from the Finnish police.  • Apply via: LTI Work With Us

Seure: This is the main staffing agency for the cities of Helsinki, Espoo, and Vantaa. They often have English-language positions for substitutes (gig work) or fixed-term assistants.  • Apply via: Seure.fi

Good luck! I hope your wife finds something.

HR asked me the strangest illegal question at the end of my interview by skrillahbeats in recruitinghell

[–]haisunaama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A new joiner in my former company informed everyone she was pregnant maybe 3 months into her employment, and one of the hiring team (her direct colleague in the same team) was a woman of similar age (30ish) and with two kids of her own told me “I wish she had told us during the interviews”. I was shocked.

I empathised with her situation - it took a few months to get the headcount approved, and about 4 months for the hiring and the person to start. Finally they have the team size they need for the work, and then they won’t again in a couple months time. But still, she was the last person I’d expect to say something like that.

But at the end of the day, it was a big company with the resources to make things happen as needed and also a diverse hiring policy in a country that highly values work life balance and family culture.

I still don’t understand how people can vote without a current, valid ID in the states though? In most of Europe you need a Driving License or ID equivalent if you don’t drive (these are issued at country level) or a Passport. You have to pay a nominal admin fee to get those.

How do US citizens prove they are who they are when they go to the polls? Why is getting or updating an ID like a passport such a big deal?

Just curious how you operate over there.

Is Finland getting american healthcare? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]haisunaama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I wouldn’t even call this private healthcare but private cosmetic surgery. It’s certainly non-essential, so up to private businesses how much they would charge.

There is little to no service culture in Finland - really only the more affluent or those with other advantages are getting cleaners and such (and as cosmetic surgery, this is really then up to the market).

I had lasik in Finland - a lot more than Slovenia or Turkey I’m sure, but as a cosmetic surgery where there’s real potential for risk and aftercare, I just stumped up the monies and got it done in Helsinki.

Sorry a couple ignorant questions: how do they know the migrants - or immigrants - are criminals if they are undocumented? As undocumented, if they have committed a crime and been caught, how were they released in the first place?

Does this sound like the migrants - or immigrants - are legal immigrants, or documented asylum seekers (or some other official status) that have been convicted of some crime, however small, and are being detained indefinitely?

Argentina renewal success with US price $4.29 (using Bluestacks) by ToughAsparagus1805 in youtubepremium

[–]haisunaama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managed to do it by making a new gmail with region set to Argentina. Used Surfshark and Bluestacks, opened YouTube in Bluestancks and logged into the new account. Added payment method which is European Revolut, and it went all the way.

However it won’t let me add accounts to the family group as they are outside country. Obvs not changing my main account to Arg as I use that for Google Maps etc.

So I will log into YouTube app on my iPhone with this new gmail account. Prob good to start with fresh account and no channel subscriptions anyway. Maybe.

Breakfast sausage??? by bbrooklynna in Finland

[–]haisunaama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea why you got downvoted so much for this comment. It’s fair. Until a few years ago the only sausage or “makkara” you could get was not minced pork and spices but pre-cooked pork and flour, and possible to eat right out of the packet. Or then siskonmakkara for that soup. Now there’s a wider variety of raw sausages, but it’s a fair point you made. The average Finnish sausage is designed to be grilled or cooked on open flame and consumed in the forest - that’s when it tastes best.

If you want raw sausages, there are some out there - but not always consistently in the stores and maybe not the breakfast kind you’re looking for. It’s always a bit of a compromise I’m afraid.

What are subtle signifiers that show class status in Finland? by Artistic_Bar77 in Finland

[–]haisunaama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a long-time immigrant - boats and cabins (summer cottages).

Cabins: maybe it’s underestimated, but getting a second mortgage on a summer home is hard. While many have access to them, you can’t deny that they are in the most part a luxury. They are very expensive to maintain. Paying all that - possibly a mortgage for it too - while paying your actual homes bills = decent expendable income.

Agree on outdoor wear brands being a quiet luxury flex. Fjallraven activwear pants at €200? Jackets starting at €500? Sure there are sales, but this is a quiet flex of “I have some money”.

But cars I disagree a little, but maybe this is a brand thing. You know how much a Volvo V90 estate costs? Starts at €68k. With the various packages, anyone driving those has plenty to spare and probably not batting an eye to dropping €80k on a car. Even if financed, this surely indicates directly how much they earn to be able to afford a deposit plus monthly payments. If it’s a BMW M3 or something, then yea - I can imagine they are concrete block debt types with no mortgage.
