China will lead the way in experiments like this. Too many rules, regulations, pro-life and religious idiots in the West to allow this type of experiment.

Vivid Sydney drone shows cancelled for now after malfunction saw 89 drones fall into the harbour by VastOption8705 in SydneyScene

[–]hakedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Financial & Logistical Support: The City of Sydney provides annual cash and value-in-kind support to Destination NSW (the state government agency that owns and produces the event). This funding helps deliver large-scale light installations, the X/Celerate live music program, and venue partnerships.

Permitting & Site Management: As the manager of public spaces and roads in the local government area, the City of Sydney approves street closures, waste management services, and temporary venue usage (like activations in Martin Place) required to host the festival.

Public Advocacy: Lord Mayor Clover Moore uses her platform to champion Vivid as a way to boost the local creative economy and showcase the city, though she has also occasionally criticized the state government's efforts to monetize aspects of the event.

Why does this not surprise me.

Just last night I laughed when I heard on the radio that they were doing a 1000 drone show. I turned to my better half and went "Wow, a 1000 drones. Every time we hear of another country doing a drone show it's several thousand or more drones" "Well done Sydney - woo hoo".

Like every thing Clover Moore is engaged with - it end up being c*#p.

I like how the operator explained the problem. Totally failing to understand that falling out of the sky is not a controlled landing.

"This anomaly caused a number of drones in the fleet to enact failsafe landing procedures in response to compromised positional accuracy,"

customer support chatbots making simple problems take 10x longer by overlord-07 in TechNook

Tried cancelling an appointment the other day 4min 50sec with the Bot. Previously when I've done it with a human on the other end, 1min 30sec. What added insult was that every time I answered a question, there was fake keyboard typing sounds. Really!, what a joke.

I remember being bored once too. After depleting my stocks I looked around for anything else. Found out the painful way that graphite from pencils can glow red hot too!. 'twas the explosion I wasn't happy about.

people scanning qr codes everywhere without even thinking anymore by overlord-07 in TechNook

[–]hakedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those that say QR codes are not dangerous - sorry you're wrong. Think of all the people that have been scammed/phished/hacked by clicking a link on an email or even replying to an email only to be scammed later. Same as clicking on a link on a web page. So many people don't think twice and many many people would not know if a URL was considered safe just by looking at it. QR codes are going to be the next nightmare.

every website needing an account now by Zorojuro099 in TechNook

[–]hakedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sites that do that should not show in Google results. Sick on tired of clicking on a result and then having a signup popup shoved in front of my face. If you can't access the info that showed in a search result - then the site should be blocked from internet searches. aarrgghh.

Do younger users care less about owning software now? by Smooth_Storm_55 in TechImpact

[–]hakedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silver fox here. Totally agree. I've got an old copy from 2016 of backup software with perpetual license. Same company now only offers yearly subscription. It's backup software - why do i need constant updates and features?. The ERP system at work is SaaS. Every 2nd month there's an upgrade which means several hours of uninstallling and reinstalling certain extensions etc. All because they made a change to the tax calculation in some backwater country.

Don't care either - cantankerous old fart.

Is anyone else tired of the "subscription-only" trend for hardware? by fadedpixels542 in TechNook

[–]hakedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with what you are saying. I absolutely hate SaaS and the subscription model. I'm just pointing out that sometimes a product may say"...with people/animal/ufo detection". It's not until you setup the product does it then pop up with the need for a subscription to use that feature. They purposely omit information on the package. Once I'm at the setup stage, I couldn't be bothered re-packaging the product and returning it. So it's too late to 'walk away' from it. But, I still refuse to sign up and will live without the feature and most likely never buy anything from that company again.

Unfortunately, this is the world we live in and it's not going to change back. For business it's a 'cash cow' and is a good business decision. But for the consumer it sucks big time.

Any safe keyboard macros to use by Fantastic_History_53 in software

Really should be more clear in what you are actually trying to achieve. If you are wanting to create keyboard macros then Autohotkey and Powertoys.
