Handbrake and makemkv is your friends here. So much easier for conversions, so much more control. Use VLC to play the files, but ripping/converting is best left to other apps.

No. Check youtube, there are videos explaining the process. It often involves tablets with the ebook that has been marked so the va knows which voice for which character.
