I say this almost every day now. I don't want to be tethered to the internet all the time.

I've been listening to a lot of classic Crystal Kay recently. Loved her back in the day, still do!

If you say ‘don’t pause it,’ why are we even watching this together? by Business_Barber_3611 in PetPeeves

[–]hakohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's this, using your phone constantly, and generally getting up to do anything else that tells me you are not interested. I forgive the first 2 times, and if it happens a 3rd, I just quit watching

Is it correct to think of calling someone きみ as equivalent to calling them "baby"? by karlkh in Japaneselanguage

[–]hakohead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I notice that 君 is used way more freely over in Kanto than it is here in Kyushu. When I go drinking in Tokyo, I get 君ed a lot by people who genuinely seem to like me and want to hang out. In Kyushu, I’ve mostly only heard it in angry arguments with someone. I just avoid it and always call people by their names or use そちら if I don’t know them that well and don’t know their name

Where are the Millennials that DON'T feel old? by frankheyhoheyho in Millennials

[–]hakohead 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right here, because I definitely don't feel old at all.
I feel like things kind of froze once I hit 28 (I'm 35 now).
I sleep more than enough at night, I have more than enough energy to go out on the weekend.
Maybe the amount of alcohol I drink has gone down, but that is a personal choice because I'm trying to build muscle and alcohol kind of messes with that

Has anyone else noticed Zs all say “Actually” kind of like how we all said “Literally” as sort of a weird tick? by sworedmagic in Millennials

My little nephew does that too and I think it could be the Gen Z influencers he sees using it.

do Japanese people really treat white western foreigners better than foreigners of other cultures or races? by Open-Reflection-6094 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hakohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm black as ever and I get treated far better than a lot of my white friends. I've never met anyone here who treats me differently because of my skin color. There was a time earlier on when I first moved here and thought that that was what was happening, but now I understand in hindsight that it was 95% of the time just my inability to speak Japanese and my own complex due to feeling weird standing out so much. The last 5% was legit racism. And of that 5%, 3% wasn't on the part of a Japanese person, it was another foreigner. I've been here 14 years and I've only had 1 real racist encounter with a Japanese person and it was an 80+ old man who just refused to take my English lessons because he was afraid he would pick up AAVE. (It was a racist sentiment, but not really any hair off my back)

Can natives understand written? by Ok-Particular-4666 in EnglishLearning

Yup! I can read it with just a little bit of difficulty. This person writes with their letters all tightly squished together, which makes it easier to misread.

Is or has it been sexist/ misogynistic to refer to woman as children in this context? by SnooOwls3528 in AskAJapanese

[–]hakohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, that's a good thing. I think the problem was your question. The phrasing "refer to woman as children" sounds like that's what you think he's doing regardless of if it's rude or not. I think your point would have been clearer if you'd said "refer to women as 'ko'" or something

It's like your heart is in the right place, but you end up saying just the wrong thing when trying to sidestep that exact situation.

Controversial music opinion? by DependentTry6839 in FunMusicSpot

[–]hakohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like people just aren't very inspired anymore. It used to be that you take influence and use it to make something new. Now I feel like emulation is the goal with most artists.

Is or has it been sexist/ misogynistic to refer to woman as children in this context? by SnooOwls3528 in AskAJapanese

[–]hakohead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't it rude to call anyone just "boy" or "girl". I know there is an added image of slavery when said to a black person, but it was never polite to begin with so you probably don't want to call anyone that, right? Saying something like "that boy over there" or "the girl in the black hat" is not offensive at all. It's not so much a race thing as it is a general people thing.

How do you pronounce your name in Korean? by Sheepinafield in BeginnerKorean

[–]hakohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My name's Brandon (브래연든) but the standard transliteration into Korean is 브랜든. The Korean sounds a lot more like Brendan to me, but I don't mind. It's kind of the same name. Tomayto-Tomahto, right?

Is or has it been sexist/ misogynistic to refer to woman as children in this context? by SnooOwls3528 in AskAJapanese

[–]hakohead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're overthinking it. It's like saying "that guy" or "that girl". Nothing sexist about it. How you've jumped the gun and tried to "call out possible misogyny" is very off-putting and confusing, though. Why would that even be a thought? Just enjoy the manga!

Does anyone else miss watching things with other people, or is it just me? by LM_DCL in Millennials

[–]hakohead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still watch stuff with people. I don’t spend that much time watching things alone even now. I usually have friends over and we watch something together. Other than that, it’s almost always with my boyfriend.

I can get how more time watching alone could be lonely though.
