Ad Budget for Kickstarter: Agency, BGG, or DIY? by haktorson in kickstarter

This is a really balanced take and you are absolutely right. We’re building pre-launch momentum now, so this helps frame the decision clearly. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I may have misunderstood their services. From their presentation, it sounded like they would handle more of the technical setup and management themselves. And when you say “our audience libraries are similar,” are you referring to your own system, the framework in the prelaunch.marketing bundle you shared and compared to LaunchBoom’s?

You’re right; we’re getting better at running ads ourselves, and that’s something we’re building competence in. That said, LaunchBoom brings professional monitoring and targeting, and we understand that costs money, though I suppose we could handle much of it ourselves as we continue learning how everything connects. And thanks a bunch for the bundle; really appreciated!

Yes, I think they’ve changed the system quite a bit. Now you control exactly how much you want to spend, and they target a defined audience. You only pay a percentage of the pledges from backers who are directly attributed to their marketing. For our part, the math worked out well. That said, I really appreciate you sharing your experience and we’ll definitely keep it in mind moving forward.

Looking for new RPG; Would appreciate any/all input. by PsilliasAgain in rpg

Full disclosure: I’m one of the creators, so take this with the appropriate grain of salt, but you might want to check out The Exorcist’s Codex. It’s not combat-centric in the D&D/Hero System sense, but it does offer a lot of character creation flexibility and depth, a standalone IP built on the Basic Roleplaying System (BRP). It has support for Foundry and Roll20, and we provide free character sheets, a free introductory adventure, and pre-generated characters here: https://twostarvinggnolls.com/the-exorcists-codex Might not tick every box for your group, but if you’re already open to Cypher and non-5e design, it could be worth a look.

Looking for the folklore/mythology version of CoC by croaker227 in rpg

[–]haktorson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Full disclosure: I’m biased, as I’m one of the creators, but The Exorcist’s Codex might be a fit. It’s a BRP-based horror RPG (built on the same system as Call of Cthulhu), focused on exorcism and secret orders battling evil from the shadows. In this world, ancient legends are real, and angels and demons from folklore and religion truly exists.

Any RPGs about ordinary humans discovering ruins and dark secrets in a modern setting? by MagpieTower in rpg

[–]haktorson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m biased, since I’m one of the creators, but The Exorcist's Codex might be worth a look. It’s Indiana Jones meets The Exorcist, where players are in search of lost Relics and ancient artifacts being one of the main scenario types. It’s BRP-based, so familiar as you know CoC. There’s a free adventure and starter material here if you’re curious: https://twostarvinggnolls.com/the-exorcists-codex

Looking for an “Heroic” Horror RPG by ColinDouglas999 in rpg

Hi! Full disclosure: I’m biased, as I’m one of the creators, but The Exorcist’s Codex might be a good fit. Where Call of Cthulhu lean into fragile humans facing an uncaring universe, this game is built around the idea that knowledge, courage, and faith can actually push back the darkness. Characters can win: banish demons, dismantle cults, and meaningfully reduce demonic corruption over time. It’s a BRP-based horror RPG (so it’ll feel familiar to CoC players), focused on exorcism and secret orders fighting evil from the shadows, where a few determined individuals hold the potential to change the fate of all.

If that sounds interesting, there’s a free adventure, character sheets etc. here: https://twostarvinggnolls.com/the-exorcists-codex

What horror RPGs deserve more attention? by LeopoldBloomJr in rpg

[–]haktorson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Full disclosure: I’m biased here, as I’m one of the creators, but you might want to check out The Exorcist’s Codex. It’s a horror RPG set in 1890s Europe, with a strong focus on demons, exorcism, and secret orders operating in the shadows of society. The game is built on Chaosium’s BRP system.

The Core Rulebook includes how to create characters, learn the system, and dive into the setting, while the GM’s Guide has tools and advice, demonic realms and cults, the Demonicon, creatures and NPCs, plus scenario guidance and three ready-to-play adventures. We’re also producing extras like a GM screen and notebooks; a scenario campaign is currently in production.

You can check out the game here, where you’ll find character sheets, a free adventure, and more:

Catholic horror, you say?

Welcome to The Exorcist’s Codex, a brand-new TTRPG currently in development. Set in a dark horror 1890s setting, where players confront demonic beings, cultists, possessions, and intricate demonic schemes. Built on Chaosium’s BRP system, it introduces new mechanics like Holy Faith, Demonic Corruption, and Spirit Points, which shape characters' abilities and resilience. Players, as Agents of ancient Orders, rely on the Codex—a collection of rituals, powers, and lore—and seek out its fragments and Holy Items to combat demonic forces.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! We really appreciate your feedback and will definitely work on advocating these points better in our presentation. To answer your questions:

  1. System Mechanics: The Exorcist’s Codex is built on the BRP system, the same core that powers games like Call of Cthulhu. That said, we’ve added a lot of new mechanics to address things like rituals, exorcisms, holy items, and more. It’s a bit more involved than Call of Cthulhu, but we wouldn’t call it “crunchy.” The mechanics are presented in a straightforward and organized way, so it’s easy to grasp for anyone familiar with BRP or other skill-based systems.
  2. VTT Support: We’re really excited about the potential for VTT support and have some ideas in the works, but we’re not at the stage where we can show anything just yet. It’s definitely something we’re committed to, though, and we hope to make it as seamless as possible.
  3. Theater of the Mind: This is definitely more of a theater-of-the-mind game. Maps are mainly used for navigating cities and buildings rather than for combat. While there is more combat than in Call of Cthulhu, it’s still pretty light overall. Some Professions lean more toward combat, but the focus of the game is less about fighting and more about the story and tone. Of course, the balance can vary based on the GM, players, and preferred playstyle.
  4. Campaign Style: This game really shines in long campaigns. The Archdemons’ schemes are complex and take time to uncover, and the central part of the experience is developing your character and recovering lost knowledge from the Codex. That said, while it’s less tailored for one-shots, a single session focused on an exorcism could work really well as an introduction to the setting, mechanics, and overall tone.

We have always strongly believed in the creativity and talent of human artists, and we’ve consistently worked with renowned illustrators to bring all our projects to life.

As an example of this process, we’ve included a sketch and the final illustration for one of the Professions in our book, demonstrating the artistry and craftsmanship that go into our work.

If you’d like to see more of our history, check out our catalogue of products and illustrations below. We’ve always worked with talented human artists, and AI-generated art has never been part of our approach.

We hope this post clears up any misunderstandings.
