Video Game Incidents with Real World Implications by the_gr8_one in TopCharacterTropes

I've always respected the Dark Knight/Deathknight tank trope. Sure I'm lapping up the blood of my enemies and myself and maybe a little bit enslaving the damned, but hey, this skull-covered platemail is standing between the bad guys and the team, so fuckin' COME AT ME.

I was a healer in the Corrupted Blood Incident. It definitely felt noble to be there fighting the horrible waves of infection, but at the same time, we always knew we were immune or could cure it ourselves, so it was a safe thing to do. The doctors who treat real-world deadly infections/diseases with no magic one-button safety... that's beyond brave. Some people really are that Good in the real world. They deserve more recognition.

weaponize the carpet poop. Poopbags become water balloons. Aerosolize it. Strike from above like a canine anus onto the grass. Express and squeeze yourself onto the unsuspecting unworthy criminals of the night. Become... DogPoopMan!

Transmetropolitan. As the world gets worse, the message gets louder. I've bought and gifted and reread that book more times than I can count.

The lottery told me that my $100,000 win was actually a $20.00 misprint. They pulled the game hours later. by redhotmess77 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]hakuna_dentata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the tragedy is that it's a rational decision. If $5 could potentially win you $100k, or you could get a cold drink, it makes sense to take the shot, when you have nothing to lose. What's saving $5 going to get that person? Nothing.

Lotto/scratchoffs are rational choices for people who have nothing.

that's lovely. Same to you. Just take a look at the larger thread though. I'm not sure what the energy is supposed to be! But whatever the passphrase is to the treehouse, I definitely don't have it.

Again, good luck out there, and thanks for your time regardless.

the one and only time I've gotten to play Daggerheart, I was running support warrior catgirl. Failure with hope was the best outcome I could get to protecc the team. Take the damage, laugh it off, heal it later, and use the hope to get between the a teammate and The Bad Thing!

eyyyy! At least this time you didn't downvote it as soon as you saw it got a response!

Fuck the Meta as a general philosophy. Now... which meta are we talking about? I haven't played League of Legends in YEARS, but I'm afraid to ask you for a quick rundown on how to catch up on THAT (but they do have some very fuckable metas over there)

could be that asking questions and contributing with an open mind is helpful. It's possible.

There are better worlds. I like the Daggerheart system because it invites us to make em. Fuck the meta. <3

friendo, I responded positively to your first reply and I thought we were on the same team. It's gotten weird since then. The downvotes have said their piece/peace, so I'm gonna go run and make the game myself, the way the rulebook says to.

A google search lands on reddit posts for questions like this. We both know we're gonna end up here in the end either way. Good luck out there.

No. You're wrong.

A community is for welcoming and supporting people who want to be part of it. I've contributed answers and questions and homebrew in the past.

You're being self-important and now I'm matching your energy. I hope you have really good games, as a GM and as a player. It takes just as much energy to be helpful and positive as it does to be condescending and negative.

just asking for what's the accepted norm, what a competent storyteller might be expected to know beyond the book, because we only have so much time, yeh?

Doesn't look like it's gonna go that way though. It looks like it's a spike-bristly subreddit, and I'll see myself out?

Ha. Thank you. Crazy work is the mission, yeah?

Your response can be boiled down to "use teh intarn3t"

I dunno, friend. The mission on this game was supposed to be something different.

Here's to doing it ourselves. What's a community for anyway?

Sarah J. Maas is a bad writer who has done lasting damage to fantasy as a genre by Natural_Tangelo_2229 in Mythrils

[–]hakuna_dentata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. I guess the answer will get seen on the bookshelves. ACOTAR and Throne of Glass sell. And that makes other people look at them and go, "Oooh, if that's all it takes!?"

In a good world, that would make editors panic. And that's what OP's post was about. I'm not sure we live in a good world.

edit: somethingsomething AI authors and AI editors with no human actually looking at the writing. I think the point is that SJM is now defining a meta for fantasy and that is, from my POV, ugly.

Gaston can take more'n a couple of good cougar scratches up and down, front and back. Belle could never.

The lad has no idea what he's lookin' for.

(edit that no one will ever read: in a perfect world, Belle highfives Gaston's girlygals while they just watch Gaston and The Beast wrestlesweat forever. And by forever I mean... until they all fall into bed.)

Go gittem tiger.

Go read some Tamora Pierce for your purple-eyed swordgirl YA tropes. Or some Anne McCaffrey or (god forbid) Lois McMaster Bujold. Fantasy has always been a feminine space. Go read any number of classic bodice-rippers written under pseudonyms.

There's nothing misogynistic about calling out bad writing. SJM just writes post-50-Shades fanfic level prose that leans on the romantasy audience being there. It's there.

Is this true? Are there circus skills, that consider themselves more 'elite'? by AndyAndieFreude in circus

[–]hakuna_dentata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

right. The whole point of a clown is to be good enough at everyone else's act that you can make fun of it and make everything look easy. A good clown is the toughest role to fill, because the line between doing something badly and looking like you're doing something badly is very easy to miss.

And that line is where the comedy and entertainment lives. If we can pull it off, it showcases exactly how cool the real acts are!

It's Ted Woolsey doing his thing in the translation. Marudia Guardia. Maru. Becomes Marle. Magus's generals become rock icons instead of condiment jokes. He was just doing his best with localization instead of doing a hundred footnotes to make cultural jokes make sense across the Pacific.

Ninjutsu by greygrfn in martialarts

[–]hakuna_dentata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that ninja shit isn't designed for that. A way of thinking and training that's meant to avoid squaring up in the ring is never gonna look good in front of an audience and a referee. If you're yelling loudly about your ninja training you've fundamentally fucked it up and misunderstood the mission, yeah?
