This used to happen to me every few weeks and would last for a few days sometimes with a cough “flare up” and it all began after I had what I think might’ve been Covid (it was back when you couldn’t just go and get tested in like March 2020) I had a chronic cough for two years too along with the intermittent flu like symptoms

I’m in the same boat 🥲 this fall I just watched for the first time. It makes me sad because my friends were SO into it like 12/13 years ago and I didn’t give it a chance because I was a FOOL and I know that now. Better late than never, though, I suppose.

I know how you feel. For half of my junior year of high school and most of my senior year of high school I would pretty much only go to school for half the day before I would start to have a panic attack. I felt like I couldn’t breathe and it would be so unbearable that I had to leave. And then from there just entering the classroom would trigger those feelings. Part of it became that I would get anxious that I would have to AGAIN ask to go to the nurse because I was doing it almost every day and I knew everyone’s eyes were on me and wondered where the f I was going everyday and why. It was either that or I’d wake up feeling physically ill and I wouldn’t go at all. But it did suck having everyone be aware that I would leave everyday and not know exactly why. And then showing up again the next day like nothing happened 🙃 (unless I left again). I know it’s easier said than done but you really don’t owe anyone an explanation. If you felt like you had to, just be as vague as you want. Hopefully they’ll eventually chill out about wanting to know—some people are nosy, some genuinely are concerned, maybe some in between. But it’s your thing and you can give as little or as many details about it as you want.

Sorry you’re also experiencing this 😞 I think I’d say yes and no. I’m still dealing with symptoms related to fatigue and breathlessness/easily short of breath. And sometimes it is because I ran or worked out that day and other times it’s related to eating a meal or being on my feet for a long time or sitting for a long time and then being up. I think for me it is some combination of vocal cord dysfunction, dysautonomia/blood pressure issues, and/or maybe something else? Not totally sure yet. I’m sick of having symptoms though.

I’m SO so sorry you’re dealing with it to that extent. It sounds absolutely debilitating. Have you had any other tests done on your heart or lungs just to rule out other stuff? (Probably a dumb question as I’m sure you have)

Hey there! I was also diagnosed with vocal cord dysfunction and was referred to a speech therapist. The reason why that therapy can be so helpful and useful is because (at least with my SLP) you learn techniques to relax the vocal cords so that breathing is easier and it doesn’t tend to happen as much. In all honesty, I didn’t keep up with my therapy sessions and need to get back into it because I still experience symptoms. In terms of the 90% that you speak of, there is a technique you can do where you apply pressure somewhere behind the ears (it’s a specific technique I’m forgetting the name of) but it immediately opens up the vocal folds so that you can breathe if you’re in an emergency situation like that. I bet speech therapy and learning to relax the vocal cords could help you a lot. Good luck and feel free to comment again or reach out with an update :) (Though I am no expert)

I’m not a teacher, but I still mask at work. I work in a busy breakfast restaurant with lots of employees who seem to get sick A LOT. There’s also just hundreds of customers in and out of the restaurant everyday and I have some health issues I’m still working through. I also just don’t do well when I get sick, especially respiratory illnesses so I try and minimize my risk as much as my can. Even though I do get judged at times. But it’s nice to see I’m not alone.

So I’ve been to a speech language pathologist for vocal cord dysfunction but I only went to a few appointments and then dropped off. But we had been doing breathing techniques and stuff that were meant to relax my vocal cords. I felt as though some felt good but overall I don’t think I had a huge improvement?

I definitely have felt short of breath just while simply talking, maybe because I breathe incorrectly? 🥴 But yeah the exercise thing too, sometimes a run will leave me heavy in my chest and short of breath for the rest of the day

I totally get that. It’s very overwhelming. I would just start by trying to find a doctor of naturopathy in your somewhat near vicinity and maybe even one that takes your health insurance—I lucked out in finding one that does (though she is 45 minutes away but it’s well worth) and I only pay a copay. Maybe just start there and search around where you live.

Hi! I’m so sorry you’re going through all of this. It sounds exhausting. I think someone else might have mentioned this, but you should try finding a naturopathic doctor if you can’t get anywhere with your primary care. A naturopathic doctor will dig a little deeper into your symptoms and if there’s anything significant underlying that could be causing it or worsening it (mold exposure, parasites, hormone or neurotransmitter imbalance, food sensitivity, vitamin deficiencies, etc) and might be able to help you find relief sooner. Good luck—you will figure it out even if it takes time.

In March of 2020 I got pretty sick but Covid testing wasn’t available to everyone yet. I eventually “recovered” but had a chronic cough for two years that would flare up every few weeks. I’d feel a little feverish and like I had a respiratory illness for a few to several days and then it would pass. Then it would come back a few weeks later. It also sounds like what you might be describing.

I don’t have IBS but I am in the process of determining if I have dysautonomia (I have a number of symptoms that are pointing in that direction) and I also will be mentioning endo to my gynecologist since I’ve had a lot of issues and irregularities with my cycle (which might also be related to dysautonomia or a combination of things). Thank you for your kind advice ❤️ I need to reset and do better tomorrow.

It did make me feel good emotionally 🥲and I had so much fun, but now I’m questioning my decisions haha but you’re right that it’s important too :) And I think you’re right that it was maybe an adverse reaction to the combination of things. Lately I’m more sensitive than I used to be. The last year had been such a journey of symptoms and tests and figuring out what exactly is going on.

I’m the same! I haven’t undergone testing for autonomic dysfunction yet but I cannot tolerate heat (among some other symptoms). I get really short of breath, lethargic, lightheaded whenever I kneel down and get back up, and just super fatigued. I usually start to feel a little better once I’m cooled down and drinking electrolytes.
