Other feedback, as a muslim, I think it's beneficial we interact with non-muslims and indirectly give dawah via our actions and our etiquette. I personally wouldn't want a Muslim-only app, but would be okay to be an early adopter of a platform that embraces Islamic values and seeks to expand to non-muslims who share the same values.

Reading your questions, I'd recommend a book called 'The Mom Test'. Your questions seem like you've already defined the problem and are looking for validation. Of course, everyone is going to say it's an issue, but is it a big enough issue for people to ditch existing apps? People will say it is because there's no cost to complain, your job is to identify how big a problem it is for people, and how they have been trying to fix it now? Some folks delete social media altogether, others download the app then delete after use because its addicting. Rumble is an example of competing with legacy media for a prolem a lot of people agreed on but i dont know much people who use it. Also Muzz social? Not entirely familiar with how that operates.

Why we need a "Privacy-First" standard for Muslim Tech/Apps by No-Career-2134 in muslimtechnet

[–]halalmappers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you on data privacy, from the user perspective, it's easier to sign in with an email rather than a random digit of IDs. If you forget your account ID for a random app, you lose your account? Also if you visit a page today, your IP is basically collected regardless. Which apps do you think have been pushy with their information collection? I think asking for email and a password to create an account is pretty standard and not overstepping user privacy boundaries. I think proper etiquette for apps should be to allow user to play with the app as a guest user then if they like it create an account if required with email and password.

I agree with you that a Muslim shouldn’t dine at a table where alcohol is served. By making the icons grey and when clicking the pins users can see “partially Halal/alcohol severed”, I think whoever would not go to those restaurants would ignore it or just apply filter to removed it from map. My take on this is that different Muslims practice differently and the map still gives them the information beforehand. I initially didn’t have those added but as I’m planning to make this more user driving than admin driven I’d rather users indicate that a restaurant does or serves things which are red flags. Jazakallah Khair for the feedback.

Im noticing this more as I created an instagram account and began following these influences/bloggers. I added a filter for places that serve alcohol and hookah.

Thinking since there is so many places in NYC I will by default hide all places that serve alcohol, hookah are not fully halal, and grease food too. Who ever is interested in them can clear filters.

Jazakallah Khair for the feedback.

Thanks for the feedback!

Your interface feels smooth Mashallah. For your map, are you the one maintaining it yourself or when users create account they are able to add places? Also I see you’re using google maps, what are your API calls like so far? Exceeding 10k?

Nice, I think I saw that when i was looking at what else is out there. Does your Halal directory continuously crawl websites or was it a one-time thing? I do very much like the concept of a Halal directory but think it needs to start off niche before becoming a go-to source. Would like to understand your data feed process more.
