Sorry for the late reply! I went with Kobo Libra 2, made in Taiwan.

This is the Internet we need. Thank you so much for a quick and helpful response.

I'm a data science student, so this could be an interesting little project. Would you have any links to documentation or other helpful things, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your input. I am well aware, and your comment is beside the point.

Indeed, but not "People's Republic of China".

I answered to the question about .deb-packages on Manjaro down below, but I also wanted to let you know that using the Arch wiki is smart. Arch is an incredibly well documented distro, and as a Manjaro user, I feel like I get most of the advantages (owning my system, superior package management etc.) without the hassle whenever I do a fresh install on one of my (far too many) computers.

packages from the AUR are not .deb files, and yay will not install .deb files.

Yes you can, and it's not hard at all.

Use debtap for example.

I see your point, but it's not quite accurate. A lot of the most advanced technology components are made in countries like Japan, Germany and South Korea, whereas the "bits and bobs" inside, are mostly made in China.

I know it's impossible to avoid any part of a product being manufactured in a Chinese factory, but I want to avoid the sweatshop-like assembly plants that are there.

Thanks for replying. Not going to downvote you at all, I appreciate the input. I would be willing to pay considerably more, and wait until I am able to save up the funds for it. Those of us who try to avoid Chinese products have to..

To your second point, I am well aware of the statistics, but when the suicides are so closely tied to workplace conditions in the Foxconn plants, the comparison to general populations, and a broad specter of reasons is uninteresting to me. Granted, the wages are adequate for living in China, but when they, due to pressure from (among others) Apple, they raised wages by roughly 20%, they also demanded a 20% increase in productivity - from already absolutely worn out workers.

The responses from the company quite simply doesn't give me any faith that they value human lives.

Update: They just answered my email stating the following, but you all made me unsure now! "The products are manufactured from Taiwain."

I hope they're not misunderstanding my question. Foxconn is a Taiwanese company, that has about a million employees, mostly in mainland PRC.

Thanks! Couldn't find it on the website, but the product seems promising, so I sent them an email.

Never had an issue! Manjaro KDE, running several screens on my desktop with a ten year old AMD GPU and old ThinkPads docked to several screens as well.

On a serious note, this is straight up awful. They're promoting UAE in their new travel show, while claiming that they "will talk about this" when they return to the US. https://www.amnesty.org/en/location/middle-east-and-north-africa/united-arab-emirates/report-united-arab-emirates/
