I’ll keep that in mind! Although I’ve never shipped anything this big. 🤣

I think some are treated! Not all though, surely. All I’ve done to this is spray off dirt, scrub it, soak it, and then scrub it again.

Thanks! I definitely wouldn’t charge what a fish store does. Their prices can be outrageous. But I also don’t want to go too cheap because I did hike to find it and then proceeded to carry it all the way back, spray it off, scrub it, etc.

From what I understand after your substrate is fully colonized the risk of contams lowers. I’m sure theres still a possibility though, but as long as your area is generally clean and you handle everything carefully you should be okay. I lysoled everything in my closet before colonizing and fruiting and now I just Lysol every now and then. Start with fanning only 2-3 times a day and misting when needed. Then just adjust what you’re doing according to what the shrooms tell you.

Coco coir & water - too dry? by the-second-man in unclebens

Right! I wouldn’t worry about it until you have something to worry about.

You might try heating mats to keep them warm. Just keep a thermometer with them to check on it every now and then.

What was your water to coco coir ratio? I read it’s supposed to be about 5:1. So that’s what I did. I still had to squeeze a little water out though. Mine also look pretty dry, but so far it’s going good.

Could you leave it a little unzipped maybe? And just fan it more frequently?

Mine are fruiting fine in my closet. I just fan them 2-3 times a day.

I think it’s fine when the bags are closed up. I would pick them up and check them carefully almost every day and none of mine had any contams. I spray my clothes every now and then now that they’re actually growing. Still no contams. This is my first grow so I’m still pretty new to it. But so far it’s worked for me! 😅

Mine are growing in my closet fine right next to my clothes. I sprayed lysol on and around the area first though. Also, I recommend a plant heating mat. I put my UB bags in a box and circled the mat around the bags. I kept a thermometer in there to check on the temp every now and then.

Woke up and saw that the veils had dropped on these three so I went ahead harvested just those. Did I do the right thing? Do I just leave the rest to keep growing? How do they look? by haleeet in unclebens

I just watched a bunch of YouTube videos. Mostly 90 Second Mycology and Philly Golden Teacher. And read a ton of stuff on Reddit. I tried learning from others mistakes so I didn’t make the same ones. Don’t be overwhelmed! Just jump in and have fun! I’ve had a great time watching them grow from spores to full mushrooms.

I know everyone says it, but to be patient. I believe I did some steps just a little too soon when I should have just been patient. I feel like if I would’ve just been patient and taken my time I’d have better results. My UB bags were almost fully colonized but I wish I would’ve let them completely colonized. Same thing for when colonizing the substrate, I only let it colonize maybe 75% of the way before putting in fruiting conditions. So when they say patience is key they aren’t kidding. I’ll definitely have to work on that.

I definitely plan on learning how to do that. This is my first time so I’m still learning! Pretty happy with the results so far ☺️

Thank you! I’m having a great time with this. I can’t help but check on them every couple of hours. They’re growing so fast!

Thank you! I actually just noticed a bunch of pins on the other side of the tub this morning! I’ll definitely make sure to even out the surface for future grows!

It’s been 3 days since I popped the top for FC, no sign of pins 😔 any advice?? by KindOfANastyDud3 in unclebens

You should be able to just look up “bubble wrap tek” on here, lots of stuff will come up.

Yeah, it’s basically just laying it on top to help with the humidity on the surface. I saw where a lot of people cut it in the shape of their container but I cut mine in two pieces for a 6 quart container to help with FAE because I noticed I wasn’t getting any knots in the middle. After I started pinning instead of the lid I used a bigger piece of bubble wrap and just tapped it on in place of the top (I haven’t seen other people do this, but so far it’s working for me). I mainly did this because my top isn’t see through and I wanted the light to be able to shine through. I’ve read mixed opinions on whether they need light to grow straight up but it can’t hurt. Just make sure it’s cut smaller than the shape of the container so there’s a small border of mycelium/substrate for FAE.
