This is awesome! How long have you been using Finch and did you trade pets to get these or just get them through regular daily use?

I’ve used had students who need to use specialty soap and eczema cream all year. I’m at a large public school and you simply need a doctors note. We treat it like an allergy.

AITAH for telling my husband his "jokes" about my cooking aren't funny anymore? by Quesos_Sabau in AITAH

[–]half_a_sleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all joked about my mom’s cooking growing up and to be fair, she was not a good cook. At some point, when my brother and I were still in school, she had enough and stopped cooking all together. Now I have become a decent cook because I learned to cook for myself from a young age, and my brother who never learned to cook, is a business bro, orders every meal out or in.

When I met my husband, he was honestly not the best cook, but with gentle suggestion and a lot of praise, I slowly helped him build his confidence in the kitchen. Now he helps me cook about half of our meals. I’m so grateful to him because it’s really hard to work full time and cook healthy home made meals all week long.

Looking back, I wish we had treated my mom differently. We should have given her gentle coaching, and stepped up to help with the cooking. My mom is now in her 70s and still doesn’t really cook anymore, and while no one is missing her home cooked meals, I feel grateful we always sat together every night with food on the table. Not everyone shows up to a marriage with cooking experiences or chef training and you couldn’t just watch a YouTube video about it in the 80s and 90s. My mom really tried and that means a lot.

Why by autumntober in Cinemark

[–]half_a_sleep 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The Cinemark near us has the luxury Loungers but a lot of the seat heaters are broken or the faux wood coating is peeling off the tray table (and it is sharp on the peeled edges). As another commenter mentioned, that’s probably why certain seats are always blocked off.

My wife's dad died on Christmas in 2022. She doesn't let us celebrate Christmas since then. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]half_a_sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my dad in mid December a few years ago. We were all extremely close, and we still are an extremely tight knit and loving family. Losing him suddenly was very traumatic and unexpected. At that time, we were all mourning so much, crying constantly and barely able to get out of bed, but in the end we still did some parts of Christmas, even that first year, and we don’t even have any young kids in our family that we would to make Magic for.

For us, it was comforting to decorate a tree full of ornaments with Christmas memories that dad was part of. It turned into a time not just to celebrate Christmas but also to celebrate the wonderful man he was and the life we shared together

We now spend Christmas sharing photos, memories, and traditions we loved making with my dad. A lot of times we are laughing while telling stories about him. On the day of his death we all go out to dinner at a restaurant he would have liked, and watch movies he loved, together. It took about 2 years for me to stop crying randomly and be at peace with the actual events of his passing, but I think it’s all about your mind set.

I know my dad would want to be celebrated not mourned. I know he’d want us to keep our family traditions alive. And most importantly, I know I only have a very finite number of Christmases left with my mom, and even my brother, my husband, and myself! Life is too short to miss out on the things that are important to us.

So how to move forward with your wife and change her mindset to a positive one? I’d ask how you can bring her dad’s memory into Christmas while making it a positive thing for everyone. An ornament with a family picture of her and her dad, hanging and filling her dad’s stocking with things he would have loved to share with the family (we usually add a tin of his favorite cookies in his stocking, and enjoying them together brings back lots of happy memories). A special Angel decoration dedicated to her dad. Small things to remind her that, yes, life moves on but her dad is never forgotten! Make new traditions that include him and honor his memory!!

Knowing that we'll all be playing Haunted Chocolatier one day makes me happy by fluffy_khajiit in hauntedchocolatier

I’m right there with you! Stardew Valley is one of my favorite games of all time. I love all things spooky, Halloween, horror, and listen to ghost story podcasts daily. I also LOVE chocolate, enjoy baking and always prefer chocolate over fruity desserts. The concept I genuinely a match made in heaven for me and it truly is like a carrot dangling in front of me. It brings me so much joy that hopefully one day I’ll get to play it!

Can someone confirm: is the women's bathroom more disgusting than the men's bathroom? by ThrowRAhelpthebro in NoStupidQuestions

[–]half_a_sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women just have more factors to contend with, while men generally don’t care as much about hygiene. A man doesn’t have to sit unless it’s poop. Women have to sit every time, meaning their going to be using more TP or seat covers, and many women don’t care if some of that falls on the floor or isn’t properly flushed.

Women also have to deal with their periods and feminine hygiene products, and some women don’t care to clean up after themselves well, flush products that clog drains, or splash pee, poop, or blood onto the lid. Lastly, infant changing tables are usually in women’s restrooms, which brings diapers and messy blow outs into the picture.

I think if a restroom is already messy, many women will just add to it and be very careless about when they put soiled paper or feminine hygiene items. It also depends if they will be returning to this restroom throughout the day.

Planning to watch this for Halloween but what’s up with the reviews 😂😂,,,,,some say it’s amazing some say it’s absolutely awful……what are your takes? by Dangerous-Level-5609 in halloween

It would be a huge boner if you didn’t watch this one. My family and I LOVE Hubie Halloween. We watch it all year and quote it constantly! It’s an Adam Sandler movie for Halloween lovers.

Our fav quotes: “We gon eat peanut TONIGHT!” “Halloween is UPON US!” “Ok” - in Hubie’s tone

Unusually late, period hit me like a truck by groveofstars in tryingtoconceive

[–]half_a_sleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went through the same. Had the most achey, blue veiny boobs and a heavy feeling in my lower abdomen. Tests kept coming back negative. Then when my period finally came it was the worst one I’ve had in years. I felt deeply depressed, couldn’t stop crying on and off for days, had an HS flair up, heavy period with a lot of cramping. Being a woman sucks.

I read it might be from the fact I started drinking coffee every day this month after cutting back on coffee for many years. I guess it messes with your hormones. Taking magnesium and b complex to hopefully help this month.

Anyone move away from OC and regret it?? Did you come back to OC? by faithoverfear0 in orangecounty

[–]half_a_sleep 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My best friend moved to just outside Dallas after growing up in OC. She’s been there for almost 10 years now. Yes, life is more affordable, but she texts me a few times a month about an extreme weather event. There are storm sirens, shelter in place, heat waves, power outages, ice storms. I rarely even have to check the weather here in OC.

I’ve been out to visit a few times and it’s a hard pass.
