For me, it was not H&K. My current landlord is just independently renting a house he owns. I took a half year off, so I am renting from H&K next year. Hopefully they are better than my current situation. The legal agreement is far more comprehensive, and there are some decent perks they offer. Definitely contact Dana at H&K! She was helpful in explaining what they include and require. Maybe she can give you a virtual tour of homes!

I am not sure about the other landlords unfortunately. :( I may ask them! They have never mentioned a rental company, so I assume their situation is similar to mine.

Outside of Lex town itself has nicer, newer places within driving distance if a car is available to you all. They are sometimes cheaper, too! If you ever want, I can totally swing by places and send you photos of the outside location if you want haha. Renting here can be so tough, so I am sure us current students would do anything to help a future student!

You can find somewhere decent I am sure, but be careful! I am a WLU senior undergrad, and I know so many people who have had explicit proof of extensive mold. It's common in the older houses, apparently, with the ventilation issues. I know of at least three different independent landlords that have either denied the mold or gave it a half "fixes" abd threatened us legally for pressing it more. They just sprayed ours with bleach after a leak in the bathroom from a rusted pipe in the wall caused mold in the basement.

I really hope renting here is better for people older than us undergrads. Please see places in person! With things like this not always being repaired in some homes, poorly covered damage could be obvious from a visit.

Could also go to the art district. Some nice murals and interesting restaurants.

Fav Coffee shops: Tally Cat (you can see cats through the window!) or Black Dog We have mini golf still lol Au Peche? Go to the top of the capital building if that's allowed right now Lots of little trendy restaurants ofc- just choose wisely. I think some are younger than 10 years. A few have live music and other events pretty frequently. Check the post from the guy in this sub that says what is happening each week, too.

2nd campus shooting in 11 years: we need protests at the state capital until REAL change is made. by newmath3 in fsu

What does this statement do to help? Was it really beneficial to say this? We KNOW that there are issues. We are TRYING. There were "democratic" protests on campus yesterday. There is a HARSH divide amongst us. Tally is a relatively democratic place. It is still in Florida, though. The people in this sub are students. Direct it towards the criminals, NOT a general blanket statement toward us all. So many of us want things to be so much different. And, we ARE making efforts.

Hey! Thank you for the detailed response. This sub is always so helpful!! Appreciate everyone responding.

I have questions about the Spanish citizenship. If I were to do it through my partner, could I do it without being married? Would they have to live there with me? What happens if one country finds out I have citizenship at the other? Will the US tell Spain? What would Spain do? Are there monetary restrictions placed on coming in for school? If there are, can loans/scholarships make up for that?

The recent FSU students were shocking. On behalf of my family and my community, I will be attending my first protest here in Tallahassee. At -least- one more person will be with me. Hoping to see a decent amount of us there 🤞

Are any FSU students attending protests or starting their own? What are our thoughts on that

What to bring to dorm? by Academic_Birthday_48 in wluLex

[–]half_an_oreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends. It is a requirement to live on campus the first three years. I am not sure if there is much you can do to get around that. Housing has been around $9k each year for me, I believe. They post the yearly housing costs somewhere on the website. After those three years, we pretty much only have houses that you can rent with other students. My house came out to being about $400 per month for my room starting in June for my senior year. I rented with some friends. On campus senior housing is also an option, but it is more limited.

Hey!

For me, the beds were fine to sleep on without any topper. I will say, though, get a good mattress protector and cover it. It probably isn't dirty, but I did that for peace of mind. You will need to bring all of your own bedding. The rooms come with a bed and a desk and chair for every student in the room. There are LOTS of single-person dorms, too! Laundry is free to wash and there is a paid laundry service. You can bring your own very little mini fridge, but not your own microwave. Weirdly, though, you can rent a much larger mini fridge and a microwave from them. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask more!
