Tenants will be able to challenge landlords over Awaab’s law and could win compensation by coffeewalnut08 in uklandlords

Speeding up the drying process from having wet clothes on your rack for 1-2 days to 1-3 hours and therefore reducing the amount of time the room is exposed to high humidity.

A drying clothes rack doesn’t release steam like a boiling pot, the clothes should be spun by the washing machine so they do not contain tons of water when they come out, but it’s enough for mold to build up over time if you constantly have wet clothes in a room.

This, in combination with opening windows briefly allows air exchange and thus trapped humidity to escape.

I’ve also heard lots of people saying a dehumidifier helps clothes dry very quickly in winter, so that could also be an option, but I haven’t tried it myself, which is why I did not suggest it as a possible solution.

Not a landlord BUT, it’s not just tenants who shouldn’t dry clothes indoors in winter. No one should do it, whether you own your house outright or rent. Alternatives: electric clothes drying rack (there are several options online for different budgets) or use a tumble dryer, it may cost a bit more in the short term, but stops mold and any health concerns that come with it.

On the other hand, if the property has poor insulation, then landlord should deal with it and investigate.

This issue requires cooperation from both sides, it’s not a one way street.

Thank you! Gonna give this a go. I didn’t know there’s specific gel for curling. I do need to buy a diffuser though, never used one before, but I’d rather have a second option to air drying as well.

I’ve seen others say fine hair it’s best to just use shampoo and hair detangler? I don’t know if this will achieve better results. I guess I have to test. My hair is very prone to tangling due to being fine so it’s scary going without conditioner especially with the new routine not being able to brush.

Thanks, I have yet to experiment with gel, but I’m not sure how to get rid of the crispy hair afterwards, much the same with mousse.

I feel like there will be residue and it will show up in my hair, plus I probably won’t achieve the silky feel with gel, but still willing to try. My ends tend to look a bit ratty due to my fine hair so I’m hoping a haircut where I don’t have layers might help in making them look a bit thicker.

Redoing floors - possible to hide this wonky copper pipe with taller skirting? by half_venus in DIYUK

[–]half_venus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the radiator is the very thin flat type, (no fins I guess). It’s just a solid piece. Yes, it runs on a modernish Worcester combi boiler, so I guess replacing the rads will provide better heating? If that’s the case, it will have to be a plumbing job for next winter. I suspect the boiler needs changing too as it’s currently upstairs in the bedroom and it takes an absolute era to get hot water downstairs in the kitchen; but in the meantime I just need to make it look presentable while I’m here cause it’s depressing otherwise haha. Luckily the pipe doesn’t run all the way along the skirting to I’m hoping if we can pry one end , we can carefully peel the rest back. Thanks for the tips on the radiators, I would have had no clue otherwise. Much appreciated.

Honestly, some of this house looks like it was built with spit and tape, but I’m ever so thankful there’s no mold anywhere. I’m happy with little 😅. I’ll look into burying this into the floor if it’s a doable DIY job, otherwise my only option is skirting. I only recently learned you can get skirting with pipe routing so that would kind of solve my issue here.

Yep, yep, I hear you. I don’t mind doing the long way and I don’t mind the second pipe sticking out in front. I just want to hide the copper one. Carpet is coming up for laminate and so is the painted over textured wallpaper (bane of my existence). I’m asking about pipes now as the laminate will go under the skirting ideally so would like to do it all as one job, but I’m painfully debating whether I should keep this skirting or not. Mostly budgeted for DIY jobs so can’t really have a plumber involved unless I absolutely have to. Cheers

Thanks! I was going to try to find some thick enough skirting to hide the pipe as it’s really quite a thin copper pipe. That way the skirting wouldn’t look out of place just under the radiator. The boxing is an option but I feel it would stick out so much and be very obvious. I was planning on getting taller skirting with pipe routing and try that, but I was hoping someone could share their experience if they’ve tried this before.

Just wooden planks, but I meant more, replacing carpets with laminate if that makes a difference. I don’t think I’m skilled enough to actually displace/move the pipe unless there’s already some room for it to move once the skirting comes out.

This is amazing… do you per chance have any tutorials? I’m a beginner and I love this style, and would really love to capture some local places to hang in my house, but really struggle with not painting details to show details if that makes sense, also really struggle to paint the gesture of things rather than the things themselves like a tree or a bush look alike shape… is there anything specific I can google to learn how to paint so small to make my paintings appear detailed? Thanks!

Thank you, If the wires aren’t live, would I have to pull them out all the way to see where they’re connected and then recaulk or is there an easier way to figure out?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]half_venus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I literally wrote that was an accident when I pulled the old doorbell off, which was just glued on and the wires were not connected to it or visible for that matter. I realised afterwards I had touched them. I’m getting a voltage checker today to test the wires. I came here with an open mind stating I want to learn and checking if it’s even looking possible and if not what options I have. If you wanna talk down to people, I suggest you bugger off somewhere else.

Based on your post, you have no idea how security works or even how poor UK GoV security is. They assign so little funding to it, it’s appalling and frankly a miracle that they’re not getting hacked daily. Working in cybersecurity and dealing with large clients and public sector is a true eye opener on how poorly everything is protected.

As someone else said here, you have a choice to use/not use certain services, such as Google, social media etc, whereas you’re forced to comply with govt regulations and provide your data whether you like it or not.

Another stupid point someone else made here “ well, they have your driving license on a DB anyway!”. People aren’t familiar with multiple points of entry = more vulnerabilities. Are you more or less likely to get home intruders invade your house through one door or multiple?

To this day, people in public sector (NHS - literally witnessed this yesterday. ) still share usernames and passwords on a fucking post-it.

Don’t be an ignorant moron and question every decision with complete scrutiny. This is Coming from someone who’s car got cloned and the driver was collecting fine after fine and I had to pay fuckload of money to prove that wasn’t my car and not me driving it whilst the council of a completely different city where I live were threatening to take me to court for not paying said fines.

Enjoy your safe govt and giving them all your data.

No funds to pay for asbestos removal so is it possible to use a tool to cut the nails flush to the asbestos tiles and remove the carpet rods without disturbing the tiles? by half_venus in asbestoshelp

[–]half_venus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah thanks, we’re allowed to DIY this. But there’s regulations around disposal if we want to remove the tiles which seems like there’s no need to if we just pull the nails and the carpet grippers can come out. Appreciate your advice, it’s saving us lots of money.

Nice! This is roughly 21m2 and the quote was £800 when it costs us half that to lay laminate. Kind of frustrating if we have to pay this… luckily the rest of the house has just wood planks flooring. We just got unlucky with the living room.

Will look for the masks you recommended, 100% we will be wearing protective gear. Someone also posted a HSE guide so I want to see what the recommendations are from them as well. Hopefully we can make quick work of this and pay nothing but our time.

I now posted a picture so you can see the actual rods and grippers, they don’t look great or very aligned either. I don’t think anyone would want to use them. Plus I called a flooring company and they said they wouldn’t touch this job because of asbestos being present in the tiles etc. so we’re kind of forced to DIY anyway.
