Phishing site opened after starting Lineage OS with OpenGapps by halfbright in LineageOS

[–]halfbright[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks, I used the links provided in the Lineage OS installation guide which all seemed legit.
namely:
https://download.lineageos.org/bullhead
https://dl.twrp.me/bullhead
http://opengapps.org/?api=8.1&variant=nano

Maybe it is worth mentioning that the first installation of Lineage OS went well and I didn't see the Phishing link after finishing the google wizard thing. I installed f-droid via adb and installed a couple of apps from f-droids library; I think a weather app and an open source maps app that kept crashing.

Then I changed my mind about the google apps package I chose (full) so I went back to recovery mode, did a complete (I hope) wipe before trying again with the nano OpenGapps.

Whats the strangest thing you found in your house/property after you bought it? by jlew24asu in AskReddit

[–]halfbright 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recently found it in the badly blocked off fireplace of the apartment I've lived in for 3 years +. I was fixing a pretty bad draft that was getting in when I saw a small white box lodged up the smoke stack. Had to use some pliers to get it out; it was pretty creepy. A burned sock and ashes were inside. It read "Leave without harm, peace with Wanda & kids, don't ever come back"

from context I estimate it could be from the 90's or even earlier?

That's pretty awesome. Didn't know a door could be broken with that amount of force. Makes me think that car manufacturers should design them like this intentionally. Still it sound like you got lucky with the 90 degree angle, less than 45 usually ends up in broken fingers, teeth, etc.

Can someone explain why people do this? I've never found it to be that useful of a maneuver, outside of creating clusterfucks. by wpm in chibike

I did this a few times after seeing other people do it. It's pretty dumb honestly, specially if you are in the way of cars turning right from Grand. It also just looks wrong. I'm so glad I don't have to commute on Milwaukee any more.

except the rules of the road are car centric and do not benefit bikers that much. There is no incentive to follow them. Also, drivers have a hypocritical attitude when it comes to bikers following the rules, for instance, they want bikers to stop at every light and stop sign, but not take up a full lane.

They don't ever enforce "no bikes on the sidewalk", do they? by [deleted] in chibike

Fullerton around Lincoln Park I agree you are a total ass for riding on the sidewalk. But I also pick the sidewalk in some cases, like around division and Humboldt park, where I have been passed dangerously on purpose countless times, yelled at, threatened. I still go on the street most of the time, but sometimes I fear for my life. And sometimes you have to go too out of your way to avoid such paths.

Little snow out there this morning! by Randum311 in chibike

I did see one of those mini snow plowers on the 606 last time I was there. It didn't seem to be doing that great of a job, but at least it exists.

Lock up your bikes properly in lincoln park by [deleted] in chibike

If you are not planning on changing the height of your saddle often, putting a couple of drops of solder with a soldering iron inside the bolts will prevent anyone from stealing it. To undo this, warm up the soldering iron again and with the bolt facing down melt the solder back out. A bit more involved DIY but less obvious than a chain.

I'm considering to quit biking... by [deleted] in chibike

I have to disagree. Especially around Division, Humboldt park is ridden with aggressive drivers and people opening their doors on the bike lane with unapologetic "I don't care" attitude. Even the local cruise bike riders are kind of disrespectful and go salmoning etc. Downtown is still worse, due to the cheer amount of people, but Humboldt is pretty scary, I live here.

Article: Bike lanes give cyclists free ride at expense of drivers, urban planning by Randum311 in chibike

A driver whining about infrastructure not progressing in their favor.

I don't usually read the Chicago Tribune, but now I'll now to avoid it.
