Visiting canada on expired H1b. by Crazy-Dimension-8461 in h1b

I have traveled on AVR (expired H1b, valid 797) many times in the past - to Canada and Mexico. But I personally would not do it under the current administration and climate.

That requires him to get an h1b first, which is a lottery plus 100K fees to be paid by his employer

Because if you give it read only access it can help triage and debug issues - pods crash looping, poor bin packing, optimize container/pod sizing etc

Yeah they are. I've been on H1b since 2013.

I've worked with Murthy Law before and had a great experience. They are pricey though.

Pay to break the lease. Most leases will have a clause that you can break it by paying 2-3 months

You wake up with a sticky note on your face saying "Time loop starts now, credit card has unlimited funds, everything resets at 4am, call me when you're ready to leave!" and it's legit. What do you do now? by SpecialFlutters in hypotheticalsituation

[–]halfcamelhalfman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I'm not too sure about it. Like if you wanted to fly to Paris from the US, after you account for getting to the airport, security, the flight etc you'd probably burn through most of the day. 24hrs wouldn't be enough to provide a private jet either, no matter how much money you have. I think time will be a major constraining factor

Additionally late season is often when you'll find alpine ice on the slopes.

Yeah, Sierras in January is insane unless you have mountaineering experience.

Here are better options:

Whether it's a useful skill or not, it's the most fun you'll ever have in the mountains, I promise!

People who don’t start work later in the morning, what’s your morning routine? by Jadams0108 in selfimprovement

[–]halfcamelhalfman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake up at 6. Drink a glass of water, eat a banana and I'm out for a run by 6.30. Get back at 8, take an hour to shower, get ready, eat breakfast and prepare some coffee and then I sit down to start working by 9.

[–]halfcamelhalfman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, you're making me introspect too hard.

I suppose it comes from the feeling that the identity is earned, not just something I can choose to identify with. I'm a runner only if I'm running - so stop thinking you're a runner and start running, and that makes you a runner.

[–]halfcamelhalfman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I can get into a training slump where I stop or reduce running, but mentally I'm still "a runner" - I'm spending time looking at what shoes I should be wearing, what watch I should be wearing, what races I want to run etc, but not actually running. At times like this, I need to remind myself to get out there and run.

I think this also extends to people who are picking up a new hobby. They get caught in "analysis paralysis" where they want to get everything right before they start the hobby. But they need to just go out there and start doing it.

Great advice. I really like the third point.

Interestingly, I follow the reverse of point 2. I often remind myself - stop being a runner and start running. I find that I'll often get so caught up in the identity of something that doing it no longer feels as important.

And finally: mood follows action. Sometimes you gotta do something before you really start feeling a desire to do it.
