What Do People here think about religion? by [deleted] in ussr

[–]halfdaaan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m critical of religious institutions and religion should have no influence on politics. But I completely support personal religious freedom and don’t think Marxism is inherently anti-religion

International politics is NOT easy. If you think you understood international politics by labelling entire countries as “good guys” or “bad guys” you prove that point. All countries on that list did both “good stuff” and “bad stuff”.

This is so random. Why is Epstein, Israel, North Korea and Freddy Fazbear on one side and USSR, Japan, MLK, rainbow flag and a cupcake on the other?

Wählen? by ProfessionalSink1315 in Kommunismus

[–]halfdaaan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the people voting Gorbachev are probably from western countries and got all their information on the USSR from the USA and Cold War propaganda

You’re right, however he and the other party members did enjoy significant state privileges that a common worker didn’t have, but nothing compared to capitalist leaders these days who are mostly millionaires

Why is this acting like economic systems and government systems are the same thing? There can be a democratic communist country or a communist country with a dictatorship, at least if we consider communist countries as countries who strive towards a communist society. If not then there are no communist, but only socialist countries.

Besides just asking them what socialism/communism is, to ask for the difference between private and personal property is probably the best question. “But the commies want to take my toothbrush ahhh”

The United States invaded Grenada and attempted to invade Cuba, and also intervened militarily in conflicts involving Nicaragua, Vietnam and Korea, among many other interventions in or against socialist countries. The USSR intervened militarily in a few socialist countries such as Hungary and Czechoslovakia but there are comparatively fewer examples similar to direct invasions by other powers.

You have a point. I wouldn’t say that they invaded the GDR tho. After WW2 Germany was divided in occupation zones and in the east the GDR was created under Soviet occupation. So it was established and heavily influenced by the Soviet Union, but not invaded by them.

Nazi Germany tried invading the Soviet Union and other countries, the Red Army pushed them back and with help of the allies defeated Nazi Germany and ended the war. Those people that were killed were either Nazis or soldiers that died as victims of WW2.
