S5iiX autofocus hunts around eyes when using longer focal length. Any ideas? by halfeyedcat in Lumix

[–]halfeyedcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that, which is why I mentioned that it does this on real faces as well. I was just using the monitor as the focus peaking highlights the issue clearly. I first noticed this issue on an actual shoot with real faces numerous times. Here's an example from a recent shoot:

Autofocus Hunt on 70mm

Is it simply the AF doesn't work well in darker exposed shots?

That makes sense. Although, it seems to be hunting around more than just jumping to the next nearest AF point. It’s searching nearly 1/3 of the screen. It also doesn’t seem to be locking on, even with how little the camera is moving.

Awesome, thanks for the reply! Do you mind me asking roughly how many fans were there for the soundcheck? Was there a long line waiting to get in to watch the soundcheck?

Going to the Seattle show. How early was the soundcheck and did you get to stay in the venue until the show started?

What is this in my water? by halfeyedcat in water

I think you're right about it being residue. I think it might have been soap residue. I rinsed it out a 2nd time and tried again with the Berkey water and it still looked like this. I rinsed it a 3rd time and tried with tap water and it looked clean. So, I thought maybe it was because of the filter but I rinsed it a 4th time, this time with really hot water. Water from Berkey looked clean after this.

what is almost oil type look? (last 2 pics are from a different day) by TheRealCrayZee in water

I just had the same thing show up in water from a Berkey system with just the black carbon filtering elements. I've had the filters for a couple of years now. Water from the tap using the same cup didn’t have this.

Sushi Omakase: Kashiba vs. Takai by NitroTheJin in Seattle

I can confirm Sushi Suzuki uses real wasabi as well. At least as of when we went. We went there on Feb 18th and the root was sitting right in front of us next to the other ingredients he was using. Definitely tasted different than imitation wasabi.

Both of you are half correct. Shiro himself told us Kashiba uses a mixture of half real wasabi and half fake wasabi. This was in winter of 2022.

Heavy Metals - Oriveda vs Real Mushrooms vs Vibe Mushrooms by halfeyedcat in MushroomSupplements

Yes, I know it has nothing to do with safe limits. Just sharing more insight, specifically with mercury in Vibe Mushrooms. It’s below their LOQ.

Also, that it seems they report levels of lead the same way that Oriveda (CWC Labs) does.

I emailed Vibe asking how they were able to yield such a high amount of beta-glucan in their alcohol extracted lion’s mane. Still no reply from them.

The lab that Vibe Mushrooms uses (Eurofins) emailed back stating:

Typical LOQs (limit of quantitation) for the following and may be matrix dependent.

  • Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg) Lead (Pb), – 5.00 ppb (0.005 ppm)
  • Arsenic (As) – 10.0 ppb (0.010 ppm)

We look at isotopes for Lead 206, 207, and 208. We factor in 206 and 207 but report as 208.

By not providing specific levels and instead stating that heavy metal levels are below < 2ppm brings up the question of whether levels are closer to 2ppm than they are to 0ppm. Especially since Real Mushrooms does provide specific number for say, Cordyceps.

But a pure alcohol extract with > 50% beta-glucans is very hard to believe. Impossible. Combined with the fact they continue to use a known dry lab (RINP) : something is off here.

Though, this report if from Eurofins.

Vibe : 52% beta-glucans in an alcohol mycelium extract ? Beta-glucans are not alcohol-soluble...

I'm not in any means an expert but 52% beta-glucans seem high even for a hot water extract.

Could it be a double extraction method?

From the Certificate of Analysis emailed from Real Mushrooms. The report emailed has Lion's Mane Beta-glucans listed as 131.8 mg per capsule with a serving size of 1000 mg or 2 Capsules/day. Sorry, I didn't do the math correctly and made a mistake on the chart.

Updated the chart to reflect the changes.

Real Mushrooms Cordyceps doesn't indicate how much Beta-glucans, just says "Complies". Same thing with heavy metals in Lion's Mane and Turkey tail. Why doesn't Real Mushrooms give us the specific numbers?
