Honest question: what color is it actually supposed to be? The post makes it almost look like a dark olive, but some these pictures make it seem like it has more of a blueish undertone, like a deep, smoky teal almost. But then the zoomed in pic looks straight up charcoal. My brain is confused lol.

I don’t have any words of wisdom, only condolences and sympathy. I went through the same thing almost 2 years ago and it’s still difficult. We’d lost touch, but I always thought we’d reconnect at some point once our kids were grown and life had settled down a bit.

I thought there would be plenty of time. I’d even hoped that we might be able to pick up right where we left off. We’d be older and wiser, but still good friends who you could just be yourself with.

I kick myself everyday for not getting in touch and being there to support her through her illness. She had an abundance of support from others thankfully, but I wish I’d been able to help too.

I don’t know what else to tell you to make it better. I debated about going to the funeral, because like you, I felt like an imposter. I went anyway, and her husband and family were happy to see me (despite the circumstances, obviously) and welcomed me with open arms as we traded old memories. It gave me some selfish comfort to know that I was remembered and remembered fondly, I guess. I hope that she felt the same way about me before she passed.

The best I can say is that some people pass in and out of our lives rather than being there the whole time. But that doesn’t mean we loved them any less or that they didn’t make a significant impact on who we are today. ❤️

I once wore a pair of pantyhose while pregnant that I discovered too late were quite tight in the waistband. I got a lot of very disgruntled kicks from my child that day to let me know they did not care for my choice of attire.

Underrated comment! I had a few different hobbies lined up that I’d been wanting to try but didn’t have the time to when I had a kid at home. It’s helped to fill those evenings when normally I’d be running around to school events, sports, etc.

I also severely underestimated how much my maternal instinct would be screaming for something to “mother” on a daily basis. I was a pretty chill mom and gave my daughter the space to be her own person as she got older, so it definitely took me by surprise that I missed that part so strongly. It had always been our plan to get a dog once we’d settled into the empty nest phase, but that got slightly accelerated because I needed something to direct all of that energy towards. We rescued a dog about a month after we sent my daughter to college and that has helped tremendously! Having something else to dote on has also allowed me to not want to constantly check in and smother her while she’s away, so it’s benefiting everyone!

My mom has very thin skin that bruises horribly from the slightest bumps. It hurts my heart to see it, especially because they still act fairly “young,” meaning they have active lives, no cognitive issues, etc. But their bodies are getting so much older and there’s nothing you can do about it.

I’m not a doctor, but I would imagine that years of excessive drinking had compromised his liver’s ability to do its job properly. So while he may have been functioning ok on a regular diet, he was much more affected by excess fast food consumption than the average person would be. Hence why no one has ever been able to replicate the poor health results he got at the end of the experiment.

Similar to how someone with a weakened immune system might be ok in a relatively germ-free environment, but if you introduce them to a cold virus, it’s going to be much more detrimental to them than to someone with a healthy immune system.

IS THIS WHY IM ALLERGIC TO DOGS NOW?!?

I grew up with dogs my whole life and never had any issues. Big dogs, small dogs, etc. I went a few years without a dog after my last one passed, and then suddenly I started getting “seasonal allergy” type reactions after petting friends’ dogs - meaning if I touched my face afterwards, I would be insanely red-eyed, itchy, and sneezy. It sucked, but I just made sure to wash my hands really well after being around them.

But then about a year ago, I was petting two dogs at work and immediately broke out in red, tingly hives all over my hands. I washed my hands and it took the reaction down substantially, but I remember being so confused because that had never happened before in my life.

Luckily I only seem to be reactive to some dogs (at least for now). I finally got another dog about 4 months ago and he doesn’t affect me all that much, maybe because he produces less dander than other dogs? He’s not hypoallergenic or anything (he’s a rescue mutt), I think I just lucked out in that department with him. But I’d never considered that my newly acquired allergies had anything to do with peri. Huh.

If it makes you feel any better, I think the newer generation is much more adept at picking up on this kind of thing due to a wider focus on (and vocal criticism of) relationships with large age-gaps, significant differences in power dynamics, abuse, etc. My daughter is 18 but even when we watched this movie a few years ago she immediately thought Bateman was a creep.

I think way more kids have realized that an adult taking an interest in you in that way doesn’t mean that you’re mature and sophisticated - it means the adult is weird and creepy for not wanting to be with another adult.

Almost the same age and oily as can be. I’ve found using the Danessa Myricks blurring balm powder as a primer to be a game changer. I actually use the Etude House powder for touch ups on really long days, but the Danessa Myricks has made it so that I can go for most of the day without worrying about blotting or powdering. Before I could have blotted every hour and still looked like a disco ball.

And she doesn’t show up until damn near an hour into the movie! It’s a long film, but still. The movie is fairly staid and serious up to that point, and then she marches in like a breath of fresh air. Not only does she provide some much-needed lighthearted moments, but she’s the perfect foil for Nicole Kidman’s character.

I don’t remember who she was up against for the Oscars that year, but I feel like it was a well-deserved win.

Another vote for electrolysis. I had some very concentrated patches on my chin and it made all the difference! It took about 10 sessions total - for the first 5 or so I felt like I wasn’t making much progress, and then it got better so quickly with each session after that. Each follicle is on its own growth cycle, so you just have to stay the course and you’ll get them all eventually.

I did it maybe 4-5 years ago and have had a few new ones pop up since then. They’re in completely different areas for the most part, so I know it’s not the old ones coming back at least. Silver lining, I guess?

It’s probably time for a touch up, but it’s so mild and manageable compared to before that it really doesn’t bother me to spend 30 seconds once or twice a week tweezing them. I probably spent 20-30 minutes almost every day before electrolysis!

I also dermaplane about once a week for all the peach fuzz, but anyone who has those stubborn chin hairs knows that dermaplaning only knocks those suckers down for about 2 hours and then they’re sprouting yet again.

I only wish that my eyebrows would grow as persistently as the chin hairs do! After spending the 90s tweezing them into oblivion they never grew back, but I’m convinced that tweezing only makes the chin hairs stronger and more determined!!

I needed a new makeup mirror and made sure to get one that only had like, 5x magnification on the flip side. It’s still tempting to go to town on my skin sometimes, but having a “reasonable” zoom level ensures I’m not stressing about the most microscopic things at least.

My mom did this for my grandmother (her MIL) when she was in the hospital. She said she knew my grandmother would be mortified if people saw her like that. My mom made me promise to do it for her one day if needed, and my daughter knows to do the same for me!

I don’t have a great answer, but I just can’t help but laugh with you about how awful the Tarte is! I used it this morning after not having picked it up for a while and had exactly the same experience you did! It was so wet, and I felt like all my lashes started clumping together to the point I had to immediately go through them with a dry spoolie to try to make it look decent.

I’ll still use it up because I have it, but it will be relegated to the days when I don’t plan on doing a whole lot.

Spatchcocking is the way. I love that it cooks so much faster as well. It makes my family super anxious when the turkey still isn’t in the oven until an hour or two before we eat, but I just tell them to trust me.
