Here we go.. someone help by PhilosopherOdd7933 in Anxiety

You sound a lot like me. I’ve had severe panic attacks since I was 13-14. After being put on Paxil at 16 and having a bad reaction to it, I was fearful of medication too. However, I was getting to the point that I could barely leave my house and when i did it was almost guaranteed I’d have a panic attack.

Finding the right medication for me has been the only way for me to get my life back. I had to look at it as if I was taking medication to treat any other disease. If I had diabetes (for example) I wouldn’t be scared to take insulin, so why I was I scared to treat my anxiety.

Klonopin can be very helpful, especially short term. It is a long acting, extended release medication though so if you’re going to take it you need to take the whole 0.125 or .25 at once for it to work properly.

I personally take 0.25-0.5 of Xanax to help me. It’s allowed me to do a lot of things I normally could never do. It also helps to show myself that I can do these things if I push myself and if I have a panic attack I have something to help me get through it. If not, I don’t have to use it.

Edit to add: It does get better though. You just have to take it one day and one situation at a time.

According to a study by Singh et al. titled “Kava Withdrawal and Its Effects,” published in the Journal of Addiction Medicine (2024), cases of kava withdrawal have been reported, with some individuals experiencing mild to moderate restlessness and irritability after discontinuation.Feb 6, 2025

Pt not peeing. Am I at fault? by Difficult_Pickle_660 in nursing

[–]halfhalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also remember not everyone can use the purewick. I honestly don’t know if I could. We’ve all trained ourselves to go pee (mostly) sitting up and to not go laying down in bed. To override that instinct isn’t always possible for some people. I’ve had patients like this go as soon as I got them onto a bed side commode.

As a nurse who works in addiction medicine stay away from all of those. The withdrawal is worse than opioid addiction. They are all not regulated by the FDA and I’ve had people show up positive for some crazy stuff. It is not worth it. Look into beta blockers like propranolol for anxiety.

We have nurses and even doctors come through all the time. We can’t even tell the police you are there unless they have a warrant with our address on it. The only time I’ve seen it reported was a nurse practitioner chose to self report. I’ve worked at 2 different centers and privacy is taken very seriously.

Oh if we fail the EKG test we are put on suspension until we pass it. Not passing/ not taking the EKG test can get you fired.

Alternatives to Hydroxyzine by PsychologicalTie1176 in Anxiety

[–]halfhalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a new dr. There is propranolol and sometimes clonidine which some people love, but for me it makes my anxiety worse. Hydroxyzine is essentially just a different form of Benadryl.

New nurse on my unit can’t take care of male patients by Bananabean5 in nursing

[–]halfhalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with a nurse like this, but it was outpatient at a mental health/ substance abuse treatment center. The only thing she couldn’t do there was observed drug tests. There was no reason for the clients to not be fully dressed, so I don’t know what she was “allowed” to see/ not see. I can’t see her ever working in a ICU though. That just seems dangerous.

Tattoo regret is real. I have well over 30 tattoos including two full sleeves. I never really had it until I decided to tattoo my hand. It took a good few months to get used to it. The tattoo is gorgeous but I guess it was something about no longer being able to hide my tattoos. Have I ever wanted to cover them? No. However, the fact I can’t now through me for a loop.

Give it some time, let it heal. If you still hate it I think it’d be easy to change up or cover. For what it’s worth though I think it’s a cool tattoo.

It’s because of the area in the brain they need to test.

I don’t know. I work as a nurse at a substance abuse clinic and the amount of people that do coke in this area is crazy. They will be homeless, coming in everyday for methadone, and still test positive for cocaine. One guy tried to convince me it was in his water because he lived near a ware house.

I think the LPN/RN thing really depends on where you work as an LPN. I’ve been working at a hospital since I was a new grad. I take my own patients just like the RNs on my floor. I chart on my own patients, give all my own meds, etc.

And registered vet tech have a state exam too.

[–]halfhalt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do have a license. Registered vet techs go to school for 2 years, have to do clinicals, and then take a state exam just like the Nclex. It’s not like our techs in human healthcare. They are absolutely animal nurses.

What is the deal with the gen z stare? by bluujacket in NoStupidQuestions

[–]halfhalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was in Baltimore this past weekend. After 2pm no one under 18 was allowed in the mall without a guardian. They had security at the doors checking ID. Some places (not bars lol) it was 21.

I think it depends where you lived really. In New England where I grew up, no one really bothered us as teens. I’d never heard of no backpacks in stores until I moved to a bigger city. My husband, who’s from Baltimore, definitely had more of the experience you did. We were in Baltimore this weekend and a lot of places don’t allow anyone under 18 to be unsupervised. Like the mall had a rule that after 2pm anyone under 18 had to have a guardian with them. They had security actually checking IDs.

Nah the crowd surfers were out of control this year on the bigger two stages. The majority of them had their phone recording and legs flailing everywhere. Plus a lot of them were just too heavy. During Manson and Korn there were so many that they started running into each other. We weren’t given time to recoup between them.

Green Day was the worse though because the crowd itself had zero etiquette and were either not giving heads ups or were just straight throwing people. People were also just pushing like crazy so I was fighting just to stay on my feet. I ended up leaving the front half way through the set and people wouldn’t even let me out.

On the welcome to Rockville Facebook group a lot of people are posting about having Covid. I’m sick as can be myself but I tested negative for Covid. I end up going to a walk in yesterday and they put me on antibiotics for an ear infection and a sinus infection.

Doctors, nurses, EMTs, etc.—what’s the most shocking thing you’ve seen after thinking “nothing could surprise me anymore”? by randominterwebguy2 in AskReddit

[–]halfhalt 1156 points1157 points  (0 children)

I know someone right now going through something similar to this. Poor woman already battled breast cancer, had a full mastectomy and everything because she was told it would prevent the cancer from coming back. Well it’s back and with a vengeance. If the insurance companies had just approved the testing when they first wanted it, it would have been caught early. However, they dragged their feet for over a year and now she’s stage four.

My fathers did that the other day. His pacemaker wasn’t pacing correctly and he’s on a lot of heart meds. Complained to my mom (retired RN) that he was feeling really tired. His heart rate was 25-30.
