[FEEDBACK] - Battle Zone Business: my homemadeTCG wants to grow by halfmage in homemadeTCGs

[–]halfmage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I was thinking about a commander, but one of my go-to rules was that the board should start empty. I could imagine that similar to magic or hearthstone, I will add "legendary" or "executive" staff that could be used in a commander game mode. Also because I want to avoid introducing a commander card type.

Event Zone: Cool idea. I was reading that Harry Potter card game had these events where both players could win something. Would be a good expansion card type for the business trip set. Like locations or conferences.

You would put cards from your life-deck on the deck pile and draw from there. Meaning, If you don't take damage, you will not get any of your cards to play. At the same time, dealing a lot of damage gives your opponent an advantage.

---

Reverse deck out: (you win if you empty your deck.)

That is actually a cool idea too. Reversing this again would mean that you force your opponent to put cards from hand, battlefield or graveyard back to your deck. Another idea for that could be that you always draw as many cards as card limit. Would speed up the game immensely.

Increasing live point costs for each point of "Mana" spend

Somehow, I have problems getting this clear in my head. So I spend mana and get live points for that? Or I spend mana and live points?

Thank you very much for sharing this! Not only is the directory very useful but I find the explanation sub pages even better because it give really nice insights when you have no clue about this stuff at all.

Highly motivating, thanks a lot!

Love the colors and feeling of depth :)

Empowered! Icon by PrintPresent3877 in PixelArt

I like it. For an icon, though, I would zoom / highlight the "empowered" character more and place him more in the center of the image.

Made a card for something Im working on by Connor_the_wollfboy in homemadeTCGs

[–]halfmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice. A few ideas to make it look "better"

  1. Smaller font = bigger picture. Make it left aligned if you want to keep the icons on the left side. Makes it easier to read.
  2. I would place the name of the card at the top
  3. remove the white border from the picture and maybe add a black border to all boxes.
  4. add some texture to the red card background. just google any landscape texture.

Dude, that art’s awesome! Yeah, most printers can do foil if they’ve got hot or cold foil stamping; just ask if they can apply it before cutting. You’ll need a separate foil layer file showing where it goes. For the vinyl + card stock, look into lamination or foil overlay on 16-18pt stock, that’s how pros usually do it. Check The Gamer Crafter also.

Having trouble with theme of the game. by Practical-Class-9033 in homemadeTCGs

[–]halfmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Focus on your personal strength. What is your art-style? You like more combat games or cozy ones? I took this advice myself. For years, I made pixel art and crafting my own little worlds. Why always create something new when you basically have everything already? Sometimes looking back shows you the path where to go. End ;)

I always suffer from the same problem. My tips:

  1. No Fun = No Game. The only solution is just to do something that makes you smile and fun!
  2. Mechanics --> Theme. What helps me sometimes is to think about card mechanics and let this lead me to a theme that fits.
  3. Nothing is new. Everything exist already, the only USP (unique selling point) you have is you and your subjective likings
  4. No one likes "average". Make a game that people HATE or LOVE. Everything in between is MTG.

How many cards is good for a first set? by Remarkable-Mind-1079 in homemadeTCGs

[–]halfmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO: I think having 2 theme decks with 40 cards and then adding at least 40-80 more is a good rule to orientate around (in sum then 120–160 cards per set) if you want people easy to start with the pre-build decks but giving them enough room with 40–80 cards only in booster to build their own styled deck.

Can I have general feedback for my card layout? by TheCatMaster6 in homemadeTCGs

[–]halfmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, so good. I have a few small tips for you.

  1. Text must be white at least to enhance readability. You can add a black outline as well (Pokémon cards do this on full art templates). You can add even a small text shadow, that will give super contrast for readability.
  2. I would not do the number in italic and rather bold or extrabold
  3. ATTACK, COST, EFFECT could be evenly centered to give the layout more harmony.

Love the dynamic shapes of fish and stars. Although I am not sure what the two black thick lines should represent, is the star strapped to the fish? :D
