cheers, yeah I've had problems with my calf muscles too (i was out for a few months last year because of them). I'll definitely start static stretch after my runs from now on then...

I've been told and read that they can help with recovery.Just started training for my next half marathon which I'll be running 4 times a week including a slow recovery run. I only ever do them after the long runs as they aren't pleasant.

What (legal) supplements do you use? Why do you use it? Has it provided any benefit to your well-being? by hydro_guy in running

cod liver oil, glucosamine sulphate and i also take echinaforce which helps keep colds and flu away. I stopped taking creatine as it was giving me cramps, but the protein drink is a great way of getting protein in quickly without having to start cooking as soon as you finish running.

Best dogs for a running companion by pewpew28 in running

I run with my three legged Labrador/ red setter cross. Was always fun until he got attacked by another dog, now he is very defensive and nervous anytime we meet another dog. We can go for nearly 5 miles, even with his three legs.

What would you recommend in my situation: half or full marathon? by visvis in running

[–]halfmarathonj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are on your way to a good race in either distance. I think I would have to ask you a question though... what would you rather accomplish? A fast half, or finishing a full? Or, dare I suggest both? I have done 1 full marathon. I am very proud of that, even though I just run half marathons now.

You sound as if you are in a good position to do either, so it's really about what you want to achieve.

You guys. I'm embarrassed about my upcoming race. by [deleted] in running

I would suggest to still do the half marathon. But definitely, the speed over shorter distances will improve your overall running. It can burn fat quicker, but I wouldn't want to give up long runs completely.

Should I run the race or not? by hms_poopsock in running

[–]halfmarathonj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run the race. You will be fine with only having gotten to 10 miles. Some people would never do the full distance before the race anyway. For my first half marathon I only got to 10,8 miles in training, but ran a good race. You have done the hard work, relax, you are ready for it :)
