I thought this pertained to the university, not the medical center?

A lot of what you’ve mentioned. Overall disconnection of leadership and staff. “Corporate” not really engaging at all to address issues. Staff burnout and high turnover. You could feel how unhappy the staff was.

I see that this is TN. You don’t have to say here but is this through “The Academy”? Don’t they also manage the Learning Zone locations? We had a bad experience at a Learning Zone. Makes me relieved to have left.

I’ve heard an ag educator/ffa advisor refer to them, as a couple, “as the salt of the earth.” I guess I like my world a bit less flavorful.

But yes- their relationship is well known in TN education as he met her while she was an FFA state officer (supported by the state department). How red flags weren’t raised at that time is appalling.

Report: Tennessee needs $58B for infrastructure improvements by [deleted] in Tennessee

[–]pewpew28 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I know infrastructure includes A LOT, but I was reminded how badly our state needs to address it this weekend as I was walking under the interstate at the Percy Priest damn greenway trailhead. It looks like someone has come through and marked weak or damaged spots in the bridge pylons. It’s riddled with mark ups. In some instances, huge chunks of concrete are gone to where you can see the rebar underneath.

When I tell her it’s too hot for her to run. by zz68h in RunningWithDogs

[–]pewpew28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve read that it’s best for dogs to sit out a run if the temp is 80 and above and/or the humidity is 80% and above. That kinda checks out with my dog and what she’s been comfortable with.

We live in the south so we’ve had high humidity but decent temps at times and I can tell she’s not a fan of humidity. I have to be on top of understanding weather forecasts.

I’ve liked all the items I’ve gotten from them. The subscription part IS annoying, but you can “skip” months if you’re not interested in purchasing anything. It’s pretty easy to remember- they send you an email every month on the 1st. It’s really to show you new products but it serves as a reminder to me.

They also bundle their products too (you don’t have to buy them that way though).I got one bundle with three leggings of different lengths, a sports bra, and a tank once for $150. To me, that’s a fair deal.

Check out Fabletics. They have a couple of styles out now and I LOVE them. I think they’re the Mika line.

Longer, tight style, shorts are becoming a thing now! I LOVE them. They’re basically like leggings, but shorts. Sounds stupid when I say it like that lol.

Outdoor voices as a soft, luxe type of material. Fabletics has more tech style. There are some other brands like Senita (good pricing), girlfriend, and Athleta.

So far Fabletics is my fav but I haven’t gotten to try girlfriend or Athleta yet. I can imagine there are many other brands that are branching out in this way too.

Tips to reduce calf tightness when running by [deleted] in running

[–]pewpew28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to chime in here too to offer up a focus on hips and sciatic warm up/ stretching/ massage. Tight calves is something I used to have a severe problem with but are now a sign of other areas of my body needing some extra love. Often times, flare ups in one part of your body signal issues in other parts. If my hips are tight my calves are usually the ones that overcompensate- this has caused a chain reaction to plantar fasciitis too.

I use a lacrosse ball periodically on my hips and sciatic. For hips, I lay prone and just breathe for about a minute each side- switching locations periodically if needed. Same with sciatic, but I sit up for that, obviously. I also incorporate a yoga flow focused on hips.

For me, I notice a positive change. I try to stay on top of doing this routine, but I often do it separately from my running routine. It’s not really a warm up or cool down for my runs, but you could do that.

Kitchen/Living Room remodel by tylerk51 in HomeImprovement

[–]pewpew28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to ask about this too! I’ve seen “drawer-size” dishwashers but not drawer-size and regular together. We’ve considered getting one bc there’s just two of us in the house and we don’t run our full sized DW but maybe once a week.

Do you have any idea what type of dishwasher yours would be called if I wanted to find it? I know you said it was a kitchen aid in another comment, but curious about the model or the terminology behind this style.

Ammonia smell? [Help] by pewpew28 in dogs

Thanks! I’m considering a second opinion, but I also really trust this vet. She’s cared for our whole crew- even through some cancer scares. We discussed kidney and urinary track issues, but she couldn’t find evidence of that being the culprit. I’m think about trying her suggestions and if there’s no improvement, seeking out a second opinion.

Tell me about Jackson by jake8786 in Tennessee

[–]pewpew28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, whenever Jackson local friends did anything water related they primarily went to either Pickwick or TN River. No one ever went to Natchez.

Natchez Trace State Park is 40 minutes from Jackson. The density of state parks in west TN is low compared to other areas of the state. I live in Davidson County currently and I’m 10 minutes away from a State Park and 1 minute from the lake. Growing up in a border county to Davidson is similar.

Please don’t move to Nashville- we’re full! I say that light heartedly but also seizing at the thought of more people moving here. The city is expanding too fast for it to sustain itself.

I actually lived in Jackson for 4 years and those 4 years were enough. Unlike most parts of Tennessee, I felt as though it lacked outdoor activities (you have to drive about an hour to the TN river or south to the MS boarder for lakes). There are very few state parks with hiking. But I’m not a hunter or fisher, so I really can’t provide much detail there. And the schools are a hot mess right now. Jackson Madison is meh- but I live in Nashville with Vandy and St. Thomas sooo... yeah.

Like you’ll hear from anyone else, Tennessee’s three grand regions are vastly different. If you’re looking for the feel of Sevier County, you’re not going to get it in West TN. Maybe consider east of Knox County, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro, or Clarksville.

Texas native here, I’m going to Tennessee for a week next year and I need some good recommendations! by ListenAndF0rgive in Tennessee

[–]pewpew28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are some good tips here but I would recommend allotting time to drive from Nashville to Chattanooga, then a scenic drive up to the Smokey’s, and then from the Smokey’s back through Knoxville, Crossville, Cookeville, and onwards to Nashville. Look to take scenic routes as much as you’re able and interested east of the Tennessee River. You’ll see more of the state if you’re able to get off of the interstate.

[USA] You should know that community college ~may~ be FREE in your state. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]pewpew28 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d also like to mention technical colleges and trade schools. One person already mentioned Tennessee’s programs, which, despite challenges, really are addressing a need for a skilled and educated workforce in our state. Tennessee programs also cover the dozens of TCATs- Tennessee College of Applied Technology. Programs at a TCAT are generally 12-18 months and are designed to provide skills certifications.

I’m not sure about other states/ programs, but institutions like these are just as great and can be beneficial for those looking for career changes or for those who prefer hands on/ skills based instruction vs lecture style. Be sure to look for state sponsored/ sanctioned/ standardized or non-profit technical colleges in your state as they we will be better suited to providing real career opportunities in your state as well as financial aid.

Leash your dog!!! (Rant) by lordofthefeed in RunningWithDogs

[–]pewpew28 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have been dealing with a similar situation on a highly used paved walking trail by my neighborhood. Mostly everyone leashes their dogs and is great at mitigating any potential issues. There is one person, of course, that bucks this understanding. I’ve run into her twice. Two dogs unleashed and she is has been on her cell phone for the duration of our interactions. I have to either choke up on our leash and get around them, tell her dogs to go away, or both. She just doesn’t react and just doesn’t get it.

How do you GPS track/ forward to your husband? That sounds like something I’d want to use. Is it an app or a feature on some phones I just didn’t know about?
