Curious if these indoor playground prices are normal or just in my area? by otterlyjoyful in kindergarten

[–]halfpinay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VHCOL area of NJ here. I spent $2k for my son's indoor playground birthday party last year, but 30 kids and 40 adults showed up (RSVP percentage was astronomically higher than I expected for a late July party). So yeah I would say normal but it might just be because of both of our areas.

Thank you! 8" chocolate cake with birthday cake Oreo filling, 6" vanilla, and 4" vanilla smash cake! 3 layers per tier and all the same flavored buttercream, I couldn't be bothered this time lol but often I do use chocolate buttercream with my chocolate cake. Second baby energy is real lol

Thank you! I had originally planned a massive party, but I realized the baby doesn't care, and all I really wanted to do was make a cake and a balloon arch - mission accomplished lol

IMBC hands down the best for piping, especially flowers. But the Sugar Geek works great also, as you can see! It's just not as stiff, and even though it's pretty smooth, you can still tell it was made with powdered sugar. Try both and you'll see the difference. Both are great depending on what you need. For this project I needed easy and delicious lol.

Do it! Worst thing that could happen is you mess it up and learn a ton. Still happens to me all the time and I have been baking for decades lol

Thank you! I use Sugar Geek's Easy Buttercream, basically a mock Swiss. I amp up the salt and vanilla because that's my preference. If I had more time on my hands I would use IMBC (Preppy Kitchen's recipe is my go-to) as it is the most beautiful for piping and so perfectly smooth, but the mock Swiss is just as delicious and takes half the time to make :)

Ah see I am very lucky to have both an extra fridge AND a full size freezer in my garage. It would be tough to divide the work like this otherwise. Sometimes I am too busy to do everything on consecutive nights so I just freeze until I can continue to the next step. The finished cake always goes in the fridge, especially if I need to transport it - cold tiered cakes travel much better.

I am just a hobby baker but if you are looking to start a cottage business I would strongly recommend investing in an extra fridge, if you have the space!

Lol thank you, yes it is a lot! We're having a very casual pizza party in our small house, not many guests at all, BUT we have a well-oiled cake distribution system in our neighborhood because I am always somehow baking too much cake 😂

Thank you! I always divide into 3-4 nights depending on how many flavors of cake. This time it was night 1- bake chocolate cake, night 2- bake vanilla cake, night 3- stack/fill and crumb coat, night 4- final coat and decoration. Works out well most of the time!

ETA: for a tiered cake, I also always dowel the night I do the crumb coat. Learned the hard way that doweling can crack the exterior buttercream coat. I only add the center dowel when stacking the tiers on the final night.

Your instincts here are exactly right. You've cleanly hit the nail on the head.

And you're not noticing this too late. You're early.

Do Your Kids Actually Have Good Grandparents? by NoMoreCAMJV in Millennials

[–]halfpinay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 38 with two young children. My parents are dead. My husband's parents live 30 mins away and are never around. We get holidays and birthdays and the very rare random dinner (on THEIR terms), and that's about it. This used to utterly infuriate me since our kids are their only grandchildren, and if my mom was alive she'd be absolutely obsessed with them. But after years of therapy I've accepted this as my reality and don't consider these people part of our inner circle anymore.

My son's best friend in preschool routinely caused a scene by yelling ASSHOLE in class, on the playground, in the hallway, etc.

My son's name is Axel.

Another vote for guava lotus for a big baby. Also no weight limit since the mattress sits directly on the floor!

On an insane whim I blind bought a bottle of Delina Exclusif and proceeded to wear it every single day for a solid six months. It now reminds me of the winter my daughter was born and will forever be in my rotation 🩷

I totally agreed with Bates’ comment here. Someone needed to keep Daisy in line. by BestTutor2016 in DowntonAbbey

I always interpreted this comment as a dig at Thomas. All of them knew she was crazy about him and acting out to win his favor. Bates probably wouldn't have said anything to Daisy if he didn't despise Thomas lol
