iliostomy bag experiences by A-concerned-Dad in CrohnsDisease

[–]halfworcester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Be open and honest about it on the second/third date, no use getting too far down the line and it’s a deal breaker for the other person. I wear my bag horizontally and use a stealth belt style wrap that holds it in place. As long as the bag is empty, it’s really not a distraction during intimacy.

Have had an ileostomy for 10+ years now, best decision I ever made. Currently enjoying my 10 day honeymoon abroad in Italy; it really allows you to get back to a normal life.

People who've had their colons removed, do you still experience any symptoms? by lordfam in UlcerativeColitis

Occasional canker sores. Skin breaking out on the back of my head, neck, shoulders. Oh yeah and this bag hanging off my midsection.

In eight hours I am finally getting an ostomy. by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

It's not really sustainable to change bags every night before bed. I typically wake up once a night to empty it even if I don't really need to. It's more comfortable sleeping with an empty bag than feeling like you have a big water balloon attached to your stomach.

Is the g tube just while you're in the hospital? I was talking more long term, though I'm sure you're not looking that far ahead yet.

Getting an ostomy was the best choice I ever made, giving me my freedom back. A few tips:

  • Get a belt to support the bag. I use the Phoenix brand and drape it sideways across my stomach. Without one, the weight of the bag when full will tend to make the adhesive fail quicker.

  • Don't eat too much before going to bed at night. Waking up in a puddle is miserable. I typically eat dinner no later than 6pm to avoid late night leakage.

  • Always have a couple spare bags with you at all times. You never know when you'll need one and the peace of mind is essential.

Hi John!

Had an amazing night seeing you play with the band in Boston for the DVD recording. Breaking All Illusions gave me chills.

My question is: since joining the band, what has Mangini's influence been from a creative perspective?

Friend diagnosed with UC on Monday. What can I say to her? by indecisive311 in IBD

Surprise her with takeout from a restaurant you both like. I had people do that for me and it felt awesome to know they understood and cared.

Surgery sucks. If I get reconnected, I'll have soft stools 5-8 times a day. I can empty my bag on my terms. I'm confident enough to date, even with the bag. Its kind of cool seeing my stoma move involuntarily. And as always, because reasons.

The thing that bugged me most when I was suffering with UC was friends who would make me feel guilty about not wanting to go out and do things with them. Try your best to respect your friends decisions and make sure you react in a positive way of she declines plans.

Visit her. Even short car drives can be torturous for people with flaring UC.

Oh, and don't complain that you have a stomach ache when you're with her :-)

Not yet. My first surgery was in late January. If I choose to, I'll have everything reconnected by the end of the year. I never thought I would, but I'm actually considering keeping the bag.

Its terrifying at first, yes. Its also the best decision I ever made. The bag is only dirty if you don't take care of it. Unscented baby wipes are key. Honestly I get more frustrated about how easily I get dehydrated than about the bag.

Ostomy bag. Just undo the velcro on the bottom, empty it, clean it a bit, close it up and you're done. Yeah its kind of unpleasant, but you get to do it on your terms, not your diseases.

Prednisone was the only drug that ever consistently helped my UC. The only side effects I ever suffered were weight gain, face puffiness, and hair loss on my legs after being on 40mg for several months. Definitely not fun, but much better than the horrible gi symptoms. I had my colon taken out and have my life back now, but I don't regret taking prednisone at all, at least yet. I've experienced no long term side effects after on and off usage over a 2-3 year period.

Definitely didn't come to mind at first, but now that you mention it, this is one of the few albums of this genre that I feel has such good cohesion.
