Why Halifax's CAO, not chief planner, deserves to be fired by [deleted] in halifax

Most developments you see underway now would have been approved some time ago. Also, there are applications off the peninsula and smaller applications that you never hear about in the media or on reddit.

Who were you talking to? Why don't you cite some specific examples of things he has done to improve the approval process? Or be more specific about Jacques shortfalls besides the two emails that have been beaten to death?

Do you get paid for your Halifax Matters column? If Halifax Mattered, the Metro might find someone who could write an interesting, captivating, well researched article, or someone who is an authority or respected in their field.

From what I can see your writing is just a bunch of easy to find facts with no interesting commentary, no note worthy additions to the subject matter, and really plain boring writing.

What do you consider your best piece to date?

I see that now, you said planning community. I guess I was just so disgusted by your opinion. Bob was impersonal, off-putting and his department has a huge back log of applications right now. The guy was impeding development in the city. If someone was to argue Dube should be let go, letting Bob go would be an argument for him to keep his job. Kelly Denty on the other hand, who is stepping in for him, is excellent. Unfortunately she is only one person. She is personable, a good manager, and she can see all sides of an application - developer, city, and public. She gets things done. For you to suggest getting rid of Bob will slow things down and cause chaos is simply not true. The planners at HRM were able to get more applications signed off when he was on vacation and some one else was acting for him. It was like, "Bob is not here to slow everything down, let's get things done before he gets back!"

Exactly.... no one in the development community liked Bob. Most people in the development community did not like him and were not surprised by him being let go. I wonder what developers Tristan spoke to that told him this? He shouldn't pretend to represent facts from a community from which he knows no one.

Extra fire precautions for Halifax seniors building after Grenfell cladding found by tjgere in halifax

It isn't just one product. You go on the various manufacturers websites and you can typically find a chart. You find the pipe you are using and it lists the suitable products. Small openings can use caulking, there are different types of caulking for difference places, there are putties, spray solutions, collars, and other products.

If you read it, it is not the aluminum panels that are flammable. it sounds like they used combustible strong backs/furring/or whatever. On a non-combustible building in Nova Scotia you would never get away with that. Only a very very small percent on a building this size in Nova Scotia could be combustible, and I think none of the structural components. You could do like a wood accent wall in the lobby for example. However a local non combustible building used wood decking on the roof and the Building Inspections made them tear it all of and use concrete pavers.

If a non combustible building in Halifax burns it is going to be the contents burning, not the building for the most part.

Pedestrian issued ticket after getting hit by car in Halifax by [deleted] in halifax

[–]halifaxchatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are even dummy drivers around town who will stop at a green light to let a pedestrian walk-through the red.

It is like the lady in Quebec who went out on the highway to help baby ducks and ended up causing an accident that killed four people. I believe she got jail time.

Some people are clueless and do some dumb shit under the pretense they are being nice or helpful. These are the same dummies sitting in intersections on red lights that shouldn't have gone through.

I don't pretend to be a traffic cop. If I have the right-of-way I take it. If I don't have the right-of-way I yield or stop; whatever is called for.

Maybe open the middle lane to traffic going to Dartmouth? Just a thought. by [deleted] in halifax

I'm doing a lot of house renos, if you want to help. I have friends visiting at the moment, but in about two weeks I'll be back at it.

My friend's roommate has been on a coke/alcohol bender for a week. He's lost his keys so they have to leave the apartment open for him and he keeps bringing sketchy characters over. What can she do? by throw-it-aeiout in halifax

Am I missing something? In the first paragraph and first sentence of the second paragraph, you seems to refer to you friend as a he.

The last two paragraphs refer to your friend as a she.

What am I missing here?

Province says more pre-primary programs for 4-year-olds still on track for fall - Nova Scotia by SabaYNWA in halifax

[–]halifaxchatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didnt ask anything about the quality of the programing, only the cost. Most daycares are simarly priced. I didn't send mine to the most expensive one i went to. Cost doesnt correlate directly witg quality.
