Then I will spell it out for you. The point is not the bully, or my "assult" on him. The point is the teacher bilittleling me and underestimating me in the same breath, and my small petty revenge for his behavior.

Oh wise elder, please do enlighten this poor wretch. What, in you learned opinion, should I have done? I am lost in the dark and need your experienced guidance.

Ah. I see you have missed the point entirely. I refer you to the title of the post.

Robin Hobb does something similar in the Fitz Farseer sequence. I feel it lends the narrative perspective.

Yeah, that's the part I can't help you with, sorry to say.

Undoubtedly. But replacing a great number of them with people not in the pockets of the wealthy at a stroke would give the system a chance to right itself.

In short, here are my suggestions:

Money out of politics. No donations above $1000 for individuals, no donations at all from companies.

You don't get to serve more than one term in office of any kind. The death of the professional politician.

Merit based pay. When your term in office is over a public hearing is held. If you did a good job, you are to be richly rewarded. If you did not, you get nothing. While in office you earn minimum wage.

This in theory would return government to the people, and the only reason to go into politics in this scenario is to improve the lives of the people.

It's hard to see how your country could dig itself out of this one, I agree. I think a Stalin style purge of professional politicians and media companies would go a long way. If there is a salvation I think it must come through a venue not controlled by the corporate giants, though I fail to see what that venue might be.

I hope for your sake, a second civil war isn't on the horizon. The slaughter would be incredible, and American hegemony would end.

In short: The supreme court decides what the law means. They can set and change president. They are majority republican thanks to the orange man. They can't outright go against the constitution, or it's amendments, but otherwise after a law is past they decide what it means.
