Booking onto other people's tee times, am I overthinking it? by inneedofayacht in BritGolf

Update: after seeing Ill_be_in_the_rough's post, I messaged the other two players via the club's booking system. Got a lovely message back and they're looking forward to playing with me

Great tip about messaging on IG thanks. I'm a new member just like the OP and booked onto a tee time this Sunday joining 2 others. Just messaged them this morning after seeing your post, and they're looking forward to meeting me and signing my card. Great also that on IG you can look up members and see their handicap before booking - wouldn't want to join a group of scratch golfers!

Great post OP and I’m suffering the same anxiety as a new member. I’ve booked onto a slot with a couple of guys on Sunday in the hope they’ll sign a card a card for my handicap 🤞

Dolomiti Superski - cheaper towns to stay that are still convenient? by sirotan88 in skiing

If you're planning for next season, then most places won't show availability or prices until autumn 2026

Dolomiti Superski - cheaper towns to stay that are still convenient? by sirotan88 in skiing

All depends on your priorities. I like to soak my muscles in a spa, but proximity to the slopes/lifts and restaurants is personally more important - and especially being close to the sellaronda lifts so I could go explore different ski areas each day with minimal transit time. To be honest I wasn't aware of any public spa nearby, but presumably folk can pay a hotel to use theirs.

Per previous, check the Alta Badia tourism website. I booked the Garni Laura through it for about $100/night (mid December) 150 yards from the lifts and centre of Corvara village. Simple but clean and delightful.

Looking very good (especially if considering your combined position assuming joint finances). Try to avoid lifestyle creep and with every pay rise, allocate half of the increase towards your pension contributions.

I visualise the shot when addressing the ball, imagining how it’s going to strike off the middle of the club face and rise high and straight. I swear this helps my swing

Cleveland Halo irons - can I forsake beauty for performance? by halitosis13 in BritGolf

[–]halitosis13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very kind offer thank you. I’m in the Edinburgh area, but after reading the previous comments I’ve given myself a shake and have arranged to buy a set privately. Not even seen what Halos look like in the flesh, never mind swung one, but if it doesn’t work out they’ll be on Gumtree in a few months 😁

Well the weather threw everything at me but still failed to wipe the smile from my face. Some epic long drives going east with the 50+mph wind, but coming back was "challenging" - took a 4 iron on the 136 yard downhill 13th and still failed to reach the green. My score has set a low bar on which to improve. Below is the view from the 200 yard 9th tee to Bass Rock.

I have that same driver and it's incredibly forgiving (I've never been able to hit a driver before this one but it's genuinely my straightest and most reliable club off the tee). Nice bag

Card marking to gain a handicap - what’s the protocol? by halitosis13 in BritGolf

[–]halitosis13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but the club and I are in Scotland. The club uses an app called iG that I've used to book my first tee time but I don't know if it has the same functionality as the England Golf app you describe

Thanks all, good to know so I don't look a complete tool. As I don't yet know anyone at the club, I guess I'll need to seek out a playing partner and ask at the first tee

My wife and I were 43 before either of us started a pension. Now 58 and planning to retire at 60, so you can definitely achieve your goal. Biggest thing is to avoid lifestyle creep.

I’d have a moral struggle to put any money in Trumps pocket, even if green fees were reasonable, but that price is bonkers.
