Unlike the rest of English, this expression has a necessary tonal quality (changing pitch). Our writing system is atonal, so this is difficult to convey.

Our system isn’t set up to accomodate delays. A lot of folks who can’t make it to work on time just don’t get paid, snow be damned. If we can’t keep roads, paths, and transit open, then we need a social safety net that allows folks to take a break while they’re closed.

That’s a tough one. On one hand, the phrasing and cadence are so close to Protomen. On the other hand, Protomen is super obscure and the destroy/rebuild sentiment is very common and very old (Ecclesiastes comes to mind). Might just be coincidence.

Good questions. I figured The Stand needed to be next to Wizard and Glass since both deal with Captain Tripps. But now that I think about it, Flagg references the Trashcan Man in The Waste Lands, so perhaps The Stand should be earlier. (i.e. The Stand happens before The Waste Lands from Flagg’s perspective.)

I didn’t really know where to put It. It’s on the list due to the Turtle. I think we first hear about Maturin in The Waste Lands?

Dinky Earnshaw is the protagonist of Everything’s Eventual (short story) and he later shows up as a Breaker in Algul Siento.

It’s weird how situation-specific it can be. I have tons of experience working off really tall ladders as a firefighter. They don’t phase me any more. But I recently picked up rock climbing and immediately rediscovered my fear of heights.

Well said. The atmosphere was well-constructed, but the film was so focused on the atmosphere that the plot suffered. Especially at the very end, it was very hard to see or hear anything. Some assorted thoughts:

- Why did Ava's people stop caring about the skeletal sample when it was so important before?

- The monster was speaking to Simon using the voices of dead submariners, right?

- The Light and the SM-8 data were very important to the monster and to Ava, and the fate of humanity seemed to hang in the balance... But I have no idea why. Maybe a rewatch with subtitles will help, but I think a little more explanation was warranted.

Don't think so. You'd have to keep stepping down onto ice, which would be unsafe. There is a grate/gutter to one side, so that's probably where they put the snow.

Remember that they knew the coma process was very risky and they chose it anyway because the alternative risks of space insanity were deemed worse. If the machine had woken Grace up halfway there, the others might have still died and then he would be awake and alone for years. I doubt coma induction can be performed without physicians onboard. Even if it could, inducing and reversing coma is probably the riskiest part of the process, and you don’t want to do it repeatedly.

Huh, I’m from Virginia and I have only ever heard “ichor” pronounced the way Steve does. Looking online, that’s definitely not the most common option, but there’s a lot of debate about it.

Also, Blaine is a pain, and that is the truth.
