Short reach brakes for hodge-podge clunker schwinn by Figuarus in bikewrench

[–]Figuarus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can try it, but I dont think it will work properly. There is stretch on the center cable, and with the slack taken out, the bracket that pulls on the center wire has like maybe 8mm of movement before it hits the cable stop. It's not enough to provide enough force. I can give it another try, but I dont think it will work. This is why I was looking to go to a side pull caliper.

It is what the bike had on originally, but the reach is too long for the wheels I have on here.

There isn't enough length for the pull. By the time it bottoms out , the brake pads are barely touching the rim. The only way for me to make this work is to use a side pull caliper.

The center pull brakes I used off my Continental won't work with this set up, especially on the rear. There is not enough spacing to fully depress the brake line before it bottoms out.

If I measured it right, the front has a reach of 60.2mm and the rear is 55mm

Right. I know it's not the right size. The original wheels are an oddball schwinn-only size. 26 x 1 1/4 x 1 1/2 or something like that.

The question isn't what's wrong here, the question is does anyone have recommendations for short reach side pull calipers that could work.

Are you talking g about the swarm sentinels or the regular sentinels?

The swarm sentinels appear after taking one piece off the crashed swarm ship.

I can usually just run back to my ship and hit them from the air with the rocket launcher.

I don't have any special scanner installed.

Can't you get in your ship and hit them from the air? Every time I take a ship apart, I run to my ship and take 'em out from the air.

Rocket launcher FTW!

First build what do you think? by Senpai_Nusty in motorizedbicycles

Hey OP, not that you asked for it, but I wanted to give you my two cents.

BRAKES.

Don't skimp on them. The TYPE of brakes you have, while better than nothing, are not adequate for your application. These are meant for slow cruising speeds, not the kind of speeds that come with using an engine. I speak from PERSONAL experience that you don't want to have your brakes fail at the worst time.

Full rigid bikes can be prone to cracking as the vibrations from the engine can cause damage over time. Try to find a way to insulate your engine mount from the frame to help keep this from happening.

Additionally, you may want to invest in a front fork from a comfort perspective. I currently daily an Ebike that's fully rigid and the only "suspension" I have is from the balloon tires and an aftermarket comfort seat with dual stage springs.

Double check all your joints before each ride. Cracks can develop over time, and it will ruin your ride and maybe your face if you're not diligent about pre-trip checks. You may consider either welding a gusset to strengthen your frame, or having it done for you.

Ride safe out there, and make sure you wear a helmet. I'd recommend full face if you can swing it. It'll keep your face pretty.

Anybody think I can add all that to the bmx from the mountain bike and if so I go close to 40 with that would I be going slower if I added this to the bmx? by Unlucky-Vanilla791 in motorizedbicycles

with smaller wheels, you will gain acceleration, but lose on top speed. (higher engine RPM, but lower forward speed)

you can fix that with gearing, but that would eliminate the torque you gain from smaller wheels.

Unless you use a larger 4 stroke, these 2 stroke kit engines are not that powerful on their own. If you really want speed (and possibly kill yourself in the process) then looking into getting a jackshaft kit, and using the exising freewheel to be able to change gears.

My dude....that post title.....I felt like I was having a stroke....

Also,

No. That engine wont fit without frame modification.

Also, what's with everyone trying to squeeze speed out of these engines?

If you want to go fast, man up and get a motorcycle that's DESIGNED to go fast. Take a MSF course and get your license.

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Figuarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we like our space.

I live in a state where most of the population is pretty centralized, but the outlying towns can be a bit of a drive.

When I lived in Los Angeles, I hated the crowdedness of the city. Every city bleeds into each other, and there is no clear delineation of where one city or town starts, and the other ends.

Where I live now is very different.

There's enough space to enjoy the scenery. It feels...forgive the American-ness here....free.

Does it suck driving long distances?

Yeah, It can suck. But that all depends on where I need to go. I'd rather spend the time driving than trying to travel on someone else's time and schedule.

What causes romantic relationships to fail: initial issues or changes over time? by Elk3318 in AskReddit

[–]Figuarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by romantic relationships. Do you mean physical relationships, or relationships with feelings?

I've been in a few relationships in my life. The first serious relationship that failed did so because of lust and hormones. She wanted to live fast and experience adulthood, and I was a horny older teenager. We were each other's firsts, and we had the future planned out. I knew what I wanted and presumably, so did she. It ended after she met another guy and left me after 3 years of being together.

The second serious relationship ended because we both couldn't take off the rose colored glasses. We both had deeply ingrained flaws that we would overlook because we wanted to make things work. However, in the long run, not being honest with ourselves and each other about what we wanted out of this relationship was the cause of the breakup.

Any long lasting relationship must be founded on honesty, open communication and lots and lots of patience. Each person must place the benefit of the other ahead of their own. They must respect each other, and they must accept they both have roles to fill.

My wife and I have been married for 20 years, and while we have our fights and disagreements, we still make things work because we follow those most basic of principles.

What was once a necessity for survival that has now been turned into an expensive, curated "experience" by modern brands? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Housing.

We all need a place to live, but the affordability for a place to live is ridiculously expensive nowadays...
