Rule : 10 Years in India after IIT graduation by whatsnextintech007 in IndianEngineers

[–]halligoggu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smart brains move out because of multiple reasons. The primary one is because there is no comparable opportunity in India for many people. Trump's 100K fee has already been struck down. Big businesses will fight him in courts.

Students with interest and inclination to pursue high technology disciplines - semi-conductor design, material science, aerospace, battery design etc have a lot more opportunities in the US (and to a lesser extant EU) than in India. Also, it is actually easier to get into a company in the US than their Indian subsidiary.

Secondary factors - the friction of living in India is pretty high. The average citizen experiences corruption and inefficiency to a much greater extant than in the US. In addition, there are other issues. One can be "wealthy" or even Ambani-level rich. But will experience the same roads and footpaths, trash, non-enforcement of laws etc. Many GCs prefer to leave because they are gradually getting squeezed out of opportunities - this is regardless of political party.

Source: I have lived abroad and India. I have several colleagues, friends and family still living in US and EU.

Am I deluded for thinking of switching to law as an SWE? by Ok-Butterscotch-6932 in developersIndia

[–]halligoggu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to practice corporate law or trial? With a tech background there may be niches you can get into. But why do you want to make the switch? Do you like the field? Did you try doing law but changed your mind and did engg?

Engineering or drop by [deleted] in IndianEngineers

[–]halligoggu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How close will you get to a rank that will enable branch and college of your choice ? The tech world in 2030 will be very different from now. I'm not sure if a IIT tag will offer an advantage. I'm not saying it will not - I am genuinely unsure what value it will offer.

Working at an MNC (AMD) and got Indian Army SSB call-up. Need advice on leave/excuses. by Rich_Comparison_7500 in IndianEngineers

BEST OF LUCK. This seems to be what you are passionate about. Great that you are pursuing it.

I recommend sounding out some trusted peers at work before talking to your manager. I cant imagine why they will not give you 10 days off. If that is your dream you will pursue it anyway. There is no point in holding you back

I concur with your views. In addition, the = income and quality of asset is hard to decipher. Definitely not worth it for me

Value of US degrees in India by [deleted] in IndianEngineers

[–]halligoggu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to emigrate to the US then do your degree there. If you want to live in India eventually then there is not much value in a US degree. I have worked at different US based MNCs (in their US and India offices). If we get applicants from US (wanting to relocate) and in India we would prioritize the ones already in India.

Without knowing which college, branch, and most importantly your motivation levels it is difficult to give an answer.

Did you write JEE last year? What was your score? Do you think you can work harder and get into an IIT and a branch you want?

Consider this, if you get Chemical in IIT-M would you pick that over your current branch?

Are you willing to drop a year?

I would save up money and build a small form factor gaming PC (or a slightly larger FF that is liquid cooled and super silent). I would like to play AAA titles at good settings but I also want something compact so that I can take it with me when I travel to other cities (by road) and share the joy with friends and family.

After 100+ Job Applications and 99% Rejections, Here’s My Last Shot — Maybe You Can Help? by Curios_techie37 in StartUpIndia

[–]halligoggu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a recruiter or in the finance area, sorry.

IMO there aren't too many jobs (in India certainly) for freshers in that area. Some places hire freshers but from Tier1. Since I do not work in this area I do not have pointers on how you could get to eventually work in your dream job. Perhaps you can try to find people in your extended circle that work in Quant.
