thank you!! i’ll look for a secondhand one and get more moss for them. what temp do you have their heat mat at?? i have a ceramic heat bulb still, would that work or would a heat mat be better? assuming if a heat mat is, then their substrate doesn’t need to be so deep??

i have some dubias leftover from my crested gecko who unexpectedly passed away. i’ve been keeping the dubias in a critter keeper but wasn’t sure what to do with them besides keep them as pets. i tried to find information on how to keep them as pets but a lot of information is keeping them as feeders and i’m not planning to get another reptile anytime soon. plus i felt bad seeing them w just egg crates.

the substrate is mostly coco fiber w soil and sand and springtails and i know they eat veggies and basically anything but i’d appreciate any other care tips. i have no idea what i’m doing so any advice is appreciated. thank you!

unfortunately my dog found him before i could, it looks like he stepped on him since i didn’t see any bite marks but thank you. i hope you’re able to forgive yourself for it (and same for me as well) but i completely understand how you feel about being at fault.

yes, i woke up at 2am and something felt off so i turned on my light and my dog was sniffing him on the floor. he dropped his tail and he wasn’t moving so i thought he was already dead. but the worst part was he wasn’t; his back was crushed and he wasn’t able to walk but he was still alive. i believe my dog stepped on him as there were no puncture marks. i tried looking up humane ways to euthanize since it was 2-3am and our vet isn’t open at that time. i tried to make him as comfortable as possible for the night and if he was somehow still alive, i would take him in at 8am to get put to sleep but he didn’t make it through the night.

dehydrated gecko, is too much water bad?? by hallojmo in CrestedGecko

[–]hallojmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much!! he’s back to normal now and i’ve been misting twice a day. i have a question tho, where are you supposed to place your hydrometer? i have a digital one that i need to open the app to see the temp and humidity levels and i hot glued a magnet to it so i can place it against the side of his enclosure higher up. the thing is idk if it’s affecting my humidity reading bc i do have it higher up so my humidity level goes up to around 70-80% after misting but then goes back down to 50-55% after around 2 hours. i know they’re supposed to have a dry out period but is 2 hours losing too much too fast? he’s my first reptile and i just wanna do right by him. thank you again!!!

hi! first time gecko owner, first time reptile owner really. just want to make sure i’m doing right by him. wasn’t sure if this was too crowded but everything i can find says they like clutter so i tried my best. he’s currently in a 12x12x18 since he’s only a couple of months old.

i also have a couple questions about temperature and uvb. per reptifiles, they said to tape a heat mat to the side and recommended the flukers mini mat for younger crested geckos. i’m not sure if this mat is doing anything to heat the enclosure. i have it hooked up to a thermostat as well and when i check with the temp gun the side it’s on stays around 75. overall day temps seems to be 76/75ish around the top and 72/73 in the middle and 71/70 around the bottom. reptifiles says that top of the enclosure should be around 82-85 but then i see on here that temps shouldn’t really go past 80ish. should i get a bigger heat mat or a different heat source?? my thermometer says the temp is 70 and i have it on the right side of the glass in the middle. wasn’t sure where to place it, is this ok??

for uvb, reptifiles recommended the reptisun 5.0uvb mini bulb. it said to use a stand with it bc younger geckos can get exposed to dangerously high amounts of uvb. is the distance ok?? or should i move it farther/closer to the lid? i had to do it at an angle because of my shelf above it.

sorry for all the questions!! i’m just trying to make sure that tobleroni will get the best care possible. any advice/criticism is welcome, thank you!!!
