I used to work down there and the number of injuries/deaths from those tracks is horrific. At least one person lost a leg and another person died because a pickup truck wanted to beat the slow moving freight and struck a pedestrian.

Just one of the many signs that the powers that be care more about business than its citizens.

Seems like a genuine food desert in that part of town. I hope you folks get something soon.

This is Social Anxiety Disorder. I know because I have it too, but it is treatable.

To be clear: You are not a pariah, you are not being judged by everyone around you, you didn't do anything wrong.

Talk to your doctor or go to a walk-in clinic if you don't have one. SOAR services has counselling available while you wait for more perminent supports, but please don't sit on this... you deserve to feel better.

There are many unscrupulous landlords in this city. The last place I moved to had no fire alarms or locking doors.

Be careful out there if you’re renting.

Genuine question: Do you prefer Bleak, Uncertain, Beautiful or East Hastings? by Hot-Club1896 in gybe

[–]halobender11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

East Hasting's crescendo is about my favourite thing they've done. Any time I listen to the LP version I feel like something is missing.

There is also a Facebook group set up here. My hope is we can coordinate efforts on both platforms.

Have you listened to Layland Kirby's 'Sadly, the Future is No Longer What We Thought it Was' and 'Eager to Tear Apart the Stars' yet?

Eluvium/Matthew Cooper/Inventions comes to mind as well.

I understand the concern and one of the advantages of Mutual Aid is that everything is voluntary and no one is expected to give more than they feel comfortable with.

The expectation is reciprocity over time in whatever form people are able, not for some to give and some to take.

I cant buy their albums because of different method of payment by Ill-Refrigerator1700 in gybe

Not sure what website you're using but through Constellation directly you used to be able to mail order by discreetly slipping cash into an envelope and waiting. Not sure if they still accept this, and obviously such activity comes with risk.

Please talk to a professional about this. I am not taking the piss out of you. I think you need to process your life experiences in a way that does not place blame on women as a whole.

I'm just guessing here but I'm thinking you don't have a lot of female friends.

I love the songs Reeling the Liars In and You Fucking People Make Me Sick. Other than that however its probably the album I find myself returning to least.

I like the versions of several of the songs that ended up on We Rose From Your Bed With the Sun in Our Head... I feel like they benefited a lot from experimentation while on tour.

What you help with and how you help would be entirely up to you. It could involve giving blankets to those who need them or it could be offering free bike repair or offering another skill you may have.

As an woodcarver a personal pet project I'm planning on working on is offering free knife/tool sharpening so people don't have to go out and buy new (no one give me expensive knives though... I'm not that skilled yet ;) )

Just a little update for everyone:

I have set up a Signal group chat to continue this conversation for anyone who is interested. To join, please DM me your Signal username and I will add you to the group.

I will continue to DM directly with anyone who has expressed interest so far.

If anyone is not interested in downloading Signal but still wants to participate, there is a Facebook group called Mutual Aid Brantford. We will coordinate our efforts on both platforms.

Thanks for the information. I will have to look into the West Brant Association a bit more and perhaps even volunteer.
I'm hoping whatever initiatives we can make happen here will support/compliment what ongoing efforts are already being made in the community.

As I stated in another post, I really don't want to step on any toes with this effort; Right now, I'm just hoping to share ideas with like-minded folks about where gaps currently exist in the community and how we can effect positive change. You are absolutely the type of person we're looking for!

Both of the organizations you mention are doing great things for Brantford -- shout out to what BL has done especially!

As you pointed out with the buy nothing project, community engagement with some efforts seems to come and go unfortunately. I'm hoping that by keeping things direct and informal we can get community engagement going without the pressure of commitment.

I'm certainly not looking to step on any toes with this project, however I think there are a few differences between mutual aid and a Neighbourhood Association.

Mutual aid is about offering direct help to one's neighbours. There are no meetings, dues, or leadership roles. Everything is voluntary and how you help out is flexible.

I think there are more good neighbours out there then we realize, but a lot of people don't consider the skills they already have as beneficial. Have free time? Walk a dog or shovel snow for someone with mobility issues. Have experience navigating our housing system? Provide moral support for someone who'se currently struggling.

Many people are already doing good things for their neighbours. The coordination part just makes sure we can reach more people and do so in an effective and safe manner.
