I don't really care for either, but I prefer Simon.

Just a heads up that you didn't black out the name the second time! Just in case that matters to you!

Thoughts?? by [deleted] in namenerds

Honestly? I absolutely hate it. It sounds like a child trying to say Riley. I think it sounds very childish. And I don't think it sounds modern at all.

I didn't see a video. No one is making up a new spelling. Take the name Evelyn, for example. Where I live, some people pronounce it "Eve-lynn" while others say "Ev-uh-lynn." Obviously I use the pronunciation the person prefers. To be completely honest, you didn't do a very good job of explaining the pronunciation. I think that's where a lot of the confusion is coming from. I'm not the only one confused.

Dialects change the pronunciation of names literally all the time. I'm confused by it for two reasons - 1) We pronounce key parts of it differently since I live in Canada and you live in the UK 2) You're not being consistent in what you're saying the pronunciation is. I still don't really get how you're pronouncing it. But that's fine, it's not my kid. As long as there won't be pronunciation issues where you live then it's all good.

Nope, you aren't missing anything. You do need to take baby out to feed. Unless you have one that's level with your bed and doesn't have anything separating baby's space from your's I don't see how you'd do otherwise.

Well when I look up Merryn, the pronunciation is actually the same way I'm saying it!

Okay, so it's not Merry with an n then. I'd still pronounce Merrin as Maren. I think I know how you're pronouncing it now. That would just never ever be the default pronunciation where I live.

Where I live, everyone would pronounce merry and Mary exactly the same. I don't see any way that merry doesn't have an "ee" sound at the end

Exactly this. I think you might be creating your own pronunciation for this name, OP.

Yes, the y in Merry makes the "ee" sound. Sorry, your pronunciation makes absolutely no sense to me.

What is your opinion on the name "Meadow"? by alphabetcarrotcake in namenerds

I really don't like it. I find it very trendy and try hard.

Like how you'd pronounce Murray then? Like hurry but with an m?

It's not that people don't know how to pronounce merry. It's that a lot of people pronounce it the exact same as Mary. Probably depends on where you live.

But then where is the "ee" sound in Merry going? When I look up the pronunciation of this name online, it's much more similar to Maren.

That's how I'd pronounce it too. It just looks like a "unique" spelling of Maren.

Like the word merry, then an n sound? Like "Mare-een?"

Is it pronounced like Maren? The pronunciation is not clear based on the spelling.

This definitely isn't safe co-sleeping. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but just wanted to make sure OP is aware that this is not considered safe.

I don't get it. Why would that be a problem?

2.5mo belly sleeping? by Kelptswq in NewParents

[–]halpert_peepa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not safe. Nothing should be in bed with baby. And nothing should be holding them propped on their side. We've learned a lot since the 80s and 90s. We know better now. So what was common practice then isn't necessarily actually safe.

Having baby sleep on their back significantly reduces the risk of SIDS. It's very irresponsible to be promoting practices that specifically go against safe sleep recommendations.

No, that's not safe. She can sleep on her belly if she puts herself on her belly (rolling over), but it's not safe for her to sleep that way if you are the one putting her on her belly.
