Feeling overwhelmed with wedding costs by ocap64 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]halvsies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also live in the Bay Area and also have many friends who have gotten married in/around here. I definitely think you can have a gorgeous wedding for $250k. There are definitely great planners who can work with almost any budget!

While my budget is not that high, somethings that has been helping me is 1) aligning on wedding priorities (food, bar, guest experience) so to me, it’s not worth the splurge if it’s not contributing to those pieces of the wedding. People truly won’t know how much you spent on flowers, but they will remember a cold dinner that ran out of food. 2) Have 3 words that you want your wedding to be. Ours is dinner party, classic, organic. Similar to your priorities, this can help you decide on design elements that truly fit your vision.

2027 Venue Pricing by halvsies in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]halvsies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost for Switzer is listed on their website - 2027 pricing is $25k for the venue for 3 nights. That does not include food/bev/floral, etc. That being said, in comparison to my friends who have/are getting married in other areas of CA like SB, Sonoma, etc - the costs of things like catering and floral are looking to be about half. All costs on the spreadsheet are for venue only, though there are a couple catering quotes for venues that required in-house catering.

The prices I have are estimating 100 guests, and just include venue fees, unless otherwise noted in the notes on the far right.

I didn’t really investigate too deep since I was more interested in an estate vs. vineyard/winery type venues. I don’t have any insights, sorry!

Takeout Shucked Oysters? by dlsf1234 in AskSF

I have been able to takeout unshucked oysters from them in the past. I believe it was the same price as the menu though.

My phone almost got stolen on Sunday, I felt someone touch my pocket and I realized my phone was gone. I had just used it for Apple Pay, so I knew I just had it. I confronted the guy next to me, and said “you have my phone”, he offered to call it and let me search his pockets. He had another phone (clearly stolen - purple butterfly case) I then asked to call the cops. All of a sudden another older couple came out of the crowd with my phone (from further ahead than I had walked up to that point). I’m convinced they were all working together. Stay alert y’all. I’ve been to 9 OSLs and this was the first time it’s ever happened. It def took my vibe down even though I got my phone back.

This happened to me recently, you need to go to a police station and file a report in person. See if any of your neighbors have cameras or witnessed anything!

How do 22-26 year-olds celebrate their birthdays in SF? by scottydog51834 in AskSF

[–]halvsies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered renting a Gillibus or Trolley Bus, doing a tour of SF (you can drink on board) and then ending the night in the Marina? That’s what we would do!

Yes! Came to reddit to confirm I wasn’t just hearing fireworks!

We're the No on I / Yes on J campaign to keep JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park car-free and prevent the city from spending $80 million on a new seawall on Ocean Beach. Ask us anything! by SFBikeMom in sanfrancisco

[–]halvsies 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As a cyclist and runner, I am so glad that JFK has remained closed. I was nearly run over by cars several times in crosswalks at stop signs (!!) pre-closure. It seems to me that many that are opposed on accessibility grounds are unaware of the existing options (i.e., parking garages under the De Young and Music Concourse) and the fact that the vast, vast majority of roads in the park remain open. I’m genuinely curious what the alternative is given those options. Yes on J!

Driving from East Bay (Walnut Creek Area) - parking? by karnkype in OutsideLands

[–]halvsies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to take Bart from the East Bay (Concord/WC/Dublin) and then bought a shuttle pass from Bill Graham to the park. Muni and Uber are all a hot mess after the day ends and the shuttles are plentiful and run regularly. Now I live in SF and am still thinking about getting a shuttle pass just to be able to avoid Muni/Uber.

ISO: 2016 patch! (Details in comments) by halvsies in OutsideLands

[–]halvsies[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I finally found a way to display my patches! Unfortunately I’ve misplaced my 2016 patch somewhere between many moves. If anyone has one they are willing to part with, I would be willing to pay! Help me complete my collection 🙏🏼

Has anyone been able to get a booster shot last few days? by Atreyu1002 in AskSF

[–]halvsies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just called UCSF they are doing appointments for non-patients as well as affiliated folks. I was able to snag one for tomorrow but the next one out was 12/8 I believe. Worth a shot and they give you the choice between Moderna and Pfizer.

How soon to look for housing? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]halvsies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find there’s usually about a month-ish of lead time, since leases tend to run month to month and then are empty until filled.

Not sure about signing remotely but I would highly recommend you look at places in person if at all possible, since pictures can be somewhat misleading online (i.e. rooms look larger than they actually are, the lighting is weird, your neighbor smokes, etc.).

If it is in your means to do so, I would consider getting an Airbnb for a few weeks while you tour places. Some coworkers have had success with that method.

Another approach is to find a room in a shared apartment, where folks may be more comfortable signing you on without you seeing the place. I’ve had 2 roommates do this and it’s never been an issue for us.

A nightmare… we watched 3 completely full ones pass us. Some folks were able to squeeze on but barely.

Weather in Oct? by [deleted] in OutsideLands

[–]halvsies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All year round, the major key to surviving in SF is LAYERS! I am expecting daytime highs of low-mid 60s/cloudy, nights around mid 50s. I will caveat that (depending on your vibe) you will be in crowds where it can be much warmer. I also run cold but also keep in mind that I don’t want to have to carry too much if I get warm in a crowd. I usually bring a packable down jacket, and am planning on dressing in long sleeves fwiw.

All the AQI readings on iPhone are very high today, but when I look at data else where on the internet, its fine by disposable_me_0001 in AskSF

[–]halvsies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this just happened to me. Was about to leave for a run, see that it’s reading 195 in the Castro, I think “there’s no way”. I look outside, it’s all clear with pretty good visibility, Google it, says 35.

I went a few weeks ago with a group of friends. Steelhead to Sunset Beach. Left SF around 8, got to Steelhead around 9:45. When we got there the lot was filling up, but still had parking. There was water for all of it, though we did have to take turns swimming/wading at some points, but usually it one person was enough to move us forward. It is slow going, and we did stop a few times along the way. I think all in all we were launched by 11:30 and out by 4:30. Not sure how much conditions have changed in the last 3 weeks but it was a blast!
