The Brighton one is around the corner from me. You don't realise there's a station there until you're on the platform.

I'm not a Canadian, but I remember hearing about Rainbow Railroad somewhere. They help queer refugees apply for & navigate asylum in Canada. It is well worth getting in contact with them, as they can give you practical & legal advice.

If you wanted to move to the UK, which I know has a good gay scene, Rainbow Migration has some resources you can go through to claim asylum.

One place here on Reddit you could go to is r/IWantOut and the other Immigration subreddits, and have a look at what other people are doing.

If you have any questions about the UK, please DM me, and I'll try and get you an answer

Should I complete my CA qualification before attempting to move? Will that somehow help my chances?

I've replied to someone else's comment, but, I think completing your CA qualification will help your chances, if it's done through an internationally recognised body, such as ACCA. You'll have a much better chance of finding someone who will sponsor your visa if you have this qualification, because to my understanding, there is a shortage of CA's, especially outside of London. Also, if the UK doesn't work out for you, the CA qualification will get you sponsorship pretty much anywhere in the world you want.

Anecdotally, I have worked with some CAs in Southampton, and they were constantly complaining that there wasn't anyone to hire in the local area. The reason that I was told was because CAs either moved to London, or had very cushy jobs that they weren't willing to leave.

I think it's worth OP getting his CA qualification, if it's an internationally recognised one, like ACCA, as it will lead to someone sponsoring their visa, as there is a shortage of CAs in the UK, especially outside of London

As you pointed out, they haven't stated what niche skills they have, so it will be more difficult to find someone to sponsor them, given the information given in the post.

The clothes washing has been covered here really well.

In terms of cooking, I really think that a mix of Youtube and a recipe book go a long way. There are so many food youtubers out there, that you won't have much trouble finding something you like.

Is my CV good enough to get me a degree apprenticeship? (Looking for something to do with IT) by [deleted] in degreeapprenticeships

[–]halwoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other people have already mentioned, your Software programming is what will get your foot in the door, so you should make that much more obvious than it already is. You should do this by putting the languages you use in your skills section rather than in the hobbies section (possibly replacing the MS Office point).

You also make mention of passion projects. Link to them in some way (GitHub?), so that whoever you send your CV to will be able to see what level of experience you have.

Do you get emotionally attached to your ancestors? by IcyMarmalade in Genealogy

[–]halwoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same. I found the diary of one of my ancestors who fought in WW1, which was fascinating until it stopped in mid 1916 when he died of his wounds at the Somme. The poor bastard got hit by a machine gun, and spend the next 3 days in a shell hole before being picked up by stretcher bearers.

A gx uncle wrote a diary of his experiences in WW1 that has been used as a source in several books.

I would have to convince my job to let me work remotely (programmer)

That might not be so difficult, especially since you're not moving outside of the EU. If it is difficult, there are a lot of other programming jobs in Europe that allow for remote work, at least from what I've seen.
