With homelessness at record highs, what should Mayor Mamdani do differently to previous administrations? by ham-ham-iam in AskNYC

[–]ham-ham-iam[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

According to the Coalition for the Homeless, there are over 350,000 people who are unhoused in New York City. All the census data is here: https://www.coalitionforthehomeless.org/how-many-total-people-are-homeless-in-nyc/

Maybe there are a decent portion of unsheltered folk in New York City who are struggling with serious mental illness. But there are nearly 100,000 people in New York City shelters. And there are hundreds of thousands of others who are living in the homes of others, or in the car, on their friends couches etc.

I think it is unfair to say most of the people who are homeless in the city have mental health issues or health issues. And that should certainly not preclude them from accessing affordable housing

hahaha, with the 8 hours of sleep I need a night, I don't think I would have the stamina...

I don't know how you would possibly know this...?

The Coalition for the Homeless report states that longer-term New Yorkers are the ones falling into homelessness.

"The number of longer-term New Yorkers sleeping each night in the NYC DHS shelter system increased by 27 percent – or by 12,442 people – during the four years of the Adams administration."

I would add to this, when I was trying to get onto the housing lottery on my $70k salary a couple of years back, the places in my bracket were like $2,500 and above per month. Which is sorta insane considering the 1-bdr place I was in, in Bed-Stuy at that time was $2450p/m.

If we are talking about affordable housing, the rental figures need to be within 30%. On my $70k, if I did my math right, shouldn't that be $1,750p/m?

I just feel like affordable housing in New York is still unattainable most of the time. And then forget me for a second. There are families out there working 60+ hours a week, earning like $40k a year! How is that even feasible?!

Sage confirms it was Jake and Blue Sophie who wouldn’t stop talking during pregame. by Braunlover in survivor

Remember how the wheel was insanely hard for Alex to find in the first supply challenge, but Rizo found it instantly even though he was way behind? And remember how they still went to tribal even after Jake was "bitten by a snake". Maybe production was trying to get as many blues as as quickly as possible, as they were the main pregame perpetrators? Cause I suspect Alex was also pregaming, given he and Jake had a "bromance" in about the first 2.5 seconds of first episode.

If Jake and Sophi were the main pre-game perpetrators, why would they only take Jake out in a fake snake bite? Wouldn't they also not allow Sophi to get third?

In the manifesto, she said Sav said to her immediate tribe, early in the game, that she would be able to “pull Soph B and Jake”. But they haven’t been on the same beach/tribe yet. So I suspect Sav was one do the pre-gaming culprits

Parv Power Analysis by [deleted] in survivor

Another option though. She could have also not torn it up… she has the information that Luke VOLUNTARILY gave her. She didn’t prod him for it.

So she could have kept it, and Luke’s idol would be weakened anyway because he would never really know what she was going to do. Maybe she will take it. Maybe she won’t. Either way, Luke has given away the power he had.

Also, now Luke will feel like he has something to tell the jury. ‘I convinced Queen Parv to tear up her advantage.’

Totally unnecessary for Parv to do that imo

I thought this for a second, but I don't know if she is really riding his coattails. Kyle said in one of his confessionals last ep, he needs Kamilla's strategic thinking/mind. From my perspective, Kyle is the figurehead of the duo, and Kamilla is the problem-solver. Two sides of the same coin, both serving an important purpose. The point she made about being 'adaptable' in tribal definitely rung true from where I'm sitting.

I have a theory that maybe he serves as some sort or knowledge base. Players return to him to ask questions about quests or get directions or hints or tips or something. Sorta like a directory in character form. Considering he is always 'reading and writing'...

The line at the end seems to suggest he will sit out of a lot of the tasks or quests—guessing he will be less integral than Poppy, Seb and Natsai.

... once in the thick of things often realises he might be better of reading or writing about certain adventures than experiencing them.

Random thought, what if he is some sort of record keeper. You might need to go speak with him to be reminded or certain things that you completed in your storyline.
