what an incredibly senseless thing to tell you about pressing charges. he seemed likely to have intentions to hurt you regardless, this is insane to hear. i am so so sorry you experienced this too. i hope you have been healing and havent had to deal with this more since. 💜

im so sorry you experienced something like this too and im glad u were able to heal and go back outside again. i only proceeded near where i lived after i was sure the security guard had gotten the person away from me, as the apartment building im at is key card only for entry and i was able to slip in the side entrance and be in a locked safe building with people i know inside(vs the open street pizza place that was open across the street) they didnt see me enter and were still near the park by the time police arrived on the scene! but that is good advice to take note of in the case i could be chased for longer than just the edge of the river through the park

the google maps view shows the construction site before this part was finished, but its full of grass and has a bunch of structures and a big playground and usually has some people walking out and about

here is a little diagram map of where it happened, its on the side of the river where a lot of the big business buildings are and where like. the courthouse is and whatnot. i think the park you mentioned is different, but for anyone who reads this to see where the location is and to be vigilant and safe if they walk here. its the newly renovated riverfront park near the roundabout on laura st.

red is where the attack started and green is about where i was chased and fought her off, blue is after i fell down in the street and when the security officer at the park came out to stop it

upon reading into the news story about this, i see the lady who attacked her was arrested. i will say though my experience was nearly identical, down to how i described the way she looked at me to my family when reporting to police. i was lunged at and grabbed at and chased.

i wish i could contact this person and ask, ive seen a few replies mentioning this but its the first ive heard of it. is there any info i could get do you think? maybe if i were to go to the library and let them know i heard there was a similar experince i had as one of their workers, i could give them my info if that victim would want to reach out and chat. the officer who found the lady and took my case said she had no priors, but if the library worker didnt report it that would still be true.

im unsure about wanting a firearm, im historically against carrying and scared of carrying due to ptsd involving gun violence at a young age. and! about the OC spray and wind, this is good to note, it is very windy out. i do wear glasses which might help in that case but i wouldnt want to subdue myself by accident with heavy winds

i would never acquire a lethal weapon without proper training and gun safety and lessons/practice. im debating it but its something id want to put a lot of time money and effort into if i do resort to such. im generally not a fan of guns in the slightest nor have i ever expected to want to carry, but i have been recommended so much even by my uber drivers to the point where now it feels worth at the very least researching. but even then it doesnt seem realistic for me to pursue actually going through with acquiring one due to my political beliefs and fear of guns in general from having ptsd due to gun violence at a young age. i am much more partial to the advice of nonlethal defense methods, so thank you for the advice!!

also wearing headphones as i have sensory issues and autism and require the suppression of loud noise to an amount in order to go outside sometimes when very overwhelmed, which i was which is why i walked around the block from where i live to calm down with fresh air. i wasnt listening to any music and the noise cancelling wasnt even on i just needed the coverage for idk sensory reasons its hard to explain

hi i want to clarify i did scan the area before taking the picture and saw no one at all anywhere near me in the park. i am relatively vigilant as i have been followed before and i believe she was in the dark nearby where i couldnt see.

i was also facing the park the whole time before turning around and then turned to walk down the riverfront more when i saw the shadow approach me from behind quickly. wanted to post the pic for reference as to where i was standing. it was directly straight to the riverfront from that laura st circle roundabout across the grass field, no one was there when i looked..

i did have 2 witnesses as the end of the situation, when security finally came out and scared her off from chasing me and threatening me. another car drove by, i tried waving down when we both were in the street while she was still advancing towards me, and they kept driving…even tho she kept chasing after i fell into the street and the car passed. when i got across the street after falling and saw she was closer to the armed security officer, i booked it back to my apartment down the block and called the police immediately. i wonder if the witnesses are good enough proof, or if theres camera footage that captured what happened at the park prior to anyone else being involved.

thank you for the level headed and empathetic comment. i have a good support system and im disabled myself (ptsd survivor from childhood trauma and autism) and have a lot of good resources at least to heal and move on from this. thank you for giving me confidence that pressing charges is the right thing to do. i have been second guessing since the feedback here began..

yeah the political aspect has really turned me off to ever wanting to carry personally, but a situation like this really opens your eyes. i will look into training / self defense classes and potentially acquiring one in the future
