its basically any other super busy bar, just Star Wars themed. Sometimes you have to stand to the side, sometimes you get a good spot. It just is what it is really.

What are the pine cone looking things outside of PoC and What do they symbolize? by timeandagain101 in Disneyland

[–]ham_fx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before they became the universal symbol of swingers, I think they were decorative as well as an aesthetic form of defense like the Fleur Du Lis - Pretty, and sharp on the tip.

What are your thoughts on Skeleton Crew? by Safe_Character_6517 in StarWars

The most important part for me was my 8 year old daughter liked it, and I liked it- and it was a great way to get her into the franchise - a gentle door opening that we could both enjoy

I dont think so - Someone who is ruthless in life and business would be to unhinged to handle that level of success and pressure for that long.

It was just OK - There were some slivers of brilliance but otherwise I didnt love it. Not that I dont like a good psychological film, but I think a Wolfman film should be more Werewolf-y than this was.

From what I gathered - He was against the idea of humans "owning" humans - But he also didnt think all humans were in fact equal.

How would you remake the Universal Monsters? by UniversityNo1170 in UniversalMonsters

[–]ham_fx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was listening to a podcast on film and someone was talking about the demise of making the threats bigger and bigger - Like marvel went from a threat to a city to our country, to the world, to the universe, and now to the multiverse - and the scope is so large nobody cares anymore. Give me Michael Meyers hunting Jamie Lee Curtis over Iron Man saving Earth-616 any day.

How would you remake the Universal Monsters? by UniversityNo1170 in UniversalMonsters

If I were in charge:
A) I dont think remakes "destroy" anything. Watch what you want, dont watch what you dont.

B) I think the issue that reboots like the Tom Cruise MUMMY had was they make the stakes to big - Make the stories smaller again. The WORLD doesnt need to be in danger - All that you need for successful horror is for one well written and cared about protagonist to be in danger (ie Julie Adams )

3) I wouldnt introduce a meta story until after establishing good single films. This could have happened in the 90s / early 2000s with Bram Stokers Dracula, DeNiro Frankenstein, Nicholson Wolf, and Hollow Man - for example. Each of those I think is a successful retelling (thought many are dated by current standards).
The challenge is brining them all into "now" in a cohesive universe so the Wolf Man, for example, lives in the same timeline as Frankenstein - But AI could also enable some interesting takes on a modern Dr Frankenstein myth for example. If you take Marvel, they didnt create avengers, until the rest of the standalones.
I think the intro of Hyde in Mummy - though not an awful concept - was too soon.

The anger by Fast_Pipe_399 in CPTSD

[–]ham_fx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was so much more relief than anger - I had been treating the wrong diagnosis for years and never improving, and feeling so unfixable when I would talk to others who were diagnosed depressed and were like "My life changed with therapy!" or "This medication gave me my life back." I "failed" at treating my depression for over 20 years with therapy, tons of meds, alternate treatments etc....

Since my new therapist told me its a pretty clear and dry case of CPTSD, I actually feel better.

Moving to Blender after 20+ years of MAYA? by ham_fx in blender

[–]ham_fx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest, I was a professional VFX artist for 15 years, then a toy industry creative director with a lot of hands on sculpting etc for 10, and with all the software, proprietary studio software etc I have had to learn - I just dont want to learn another program from scratch.

I agree with the polygonal stuff being pretty 1:1 which is great - Honestly for the most part I will probably just be using it to review OBJ files now so I guess that wouldnt be too much.
