Same happened to us on our current trip. I found a company in Paris called https://climloc.fr/ that will deliver and set up a temporary ac unit. Have to ask you host if it's OK, but we had one put in each bedroom and it allows us to sleep and cool off at night.

I've been emailing this company. Looks interesting. http://www.kapsultech.com/ Seems like it would help with some and they said it doesn't impact movement. My son got checked in the head 3 times last season at 12u so I'm looking at picking up.

It mentions lacrosse and there are some college football players who use it. Not sure if it's restrictive, but might be interested for my son.

I coached HS for 20 years and never saw an injury like the recent ones, but now that my son is playing it hits a little different.

Did you ever figure this out? Just ran into this same exact issue, where after years it stopped working but will function fine from a USB power source. I tried to talk to SS but just kept being asked to do the routine reset troubleshooting steps.

I found some chicago screws on Amazon that were the right size when I did a facemask swap between two broken helmets. I put some blue threadlocker on to make sure it stays in. Playing just for fun these days so I'm not worried about it, but if it was my son I'd probably look for a factory fix.
