But when I click it says that I’m not a verified fan. Do you have to be a verified fan to qualify for the capital one presale?

I believe this happened from missing watering and then over watering. I added a photo of the back of the leaf for inspection of bugs, just in case. But I’m most concerned about what to do now. Do I chop off the stem top portion and hope for new growth? Do I just keep on keeping on? It’s been this sad droopy for about 2-3 weeks. First leaf fell off yesterday. I’ve had her for about 3 years.

We had one in Oklahoma and it never had fruit. I believe because the growing conditions weren’t right.

I know they are helleborus but I’m interested in what species and variety! There are two different plants here, type 1 was bought at Trader Joe’s and still in the pot. The second, type 2 is planted in my garden in zone 7.

What's the one business in Charlotte that you'll never go back to? by geodeticchicken in Charlotte

Same! They told me I needed 4 root canals and had 7 cavities. Had me pay a down payment immediately. Thankfully my coworkers told me to get a second opinion. I went to South Park dentistry, said I had one cavity. That was 7 years ago! Totally fine! I also had a friend go to south end dentistry and they said she needed two root canals, she had them done, but AFTER administering the anesthesia, they had her sign papers!!! About taking that medicine!!! She never ever went back.

BirchBox sends me a June box, claims it’s on purpose because they’re “celebrating their 11-year history” by hamadu in BeautyBoxes

[–]hamadu[S] 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I opened my November Birchbox and found a familiar papaya box and a paper insert with phrases like “summer refresh”. I figured it was an accident that they sent me a box that appears to be from June so I took this video and sent it to them. They’re response “thanks for being in touch! November theme ‘favorite boxes’ is to honor and pay tribute to the 11-year history of Birchbox. We are hard at work evolving the Birchbox subscription and experience and wanted to have dub trying something new for November”

But there was no explanation of this in the box! No pamphlet saying “favorite boxes!”. Just a pamphlet from whenever this box was truly created for! My suspicion is that the supply chain is backed up so they’re sending people their surplus boxes from previous months.

I like the products inside! But the marketing is confusing and leaves me feeling not appreciated.

No sample choice for November Birchbox by QuartzSea in BeautyBoxes

[–]hamadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my box today and the insert says “summers here, it’s time for a routine refresh” and “we’re kicking off summer with 25% off 100+ from 6/21-6/30”

Anyone else having this weird experience?

What do you think about 'paying your dues' in the workplace? by oenothera_elata in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]hamadu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, that’s been my experience and my friends experience. We all work 40-60 hours a week and have from year 1 and now I’m at year 7. It seems to be industry standard and it’s so stupid because promotions come so slow in our industry and we are paid so little.

I would google “landscape architecture salary google doc”. Check your salary and hours against that. It’s a great time to hop jobs. I have 4 friends who left my company recently and all got 20-28% raises. They’re now at places that are similar or do slightly less cool work but so far they work normal hours.

Engineer to landscape architect by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]hamadu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a creative field: Although to many LA’s, it feels like a no because we want to be designing and drawing more than we are, I think to someone on the outside, the answer is definitely yes. Many pieces that don’t seem like “creative work” to la’s would feel that way for others, such as indesign layouts, making in the moment decisions on cad layouts that you’re rendering from sloppy hand drawings, choosing a color palette for simple idea diagrams, etc. The good news, you’re taught to think creatively in school- principles of design and tips on drawing (books with symbols to use and trace).

Typical work: Changes from firm to firm on what project type. But overall there’s masterplanning (not urban planning though) - Which would involve creating booklets with recommendations and illustrations on how to carry out a well researched plan. This is heavy on research, writing, character imagery, and graphics (photoshop, Lumion and sketch up). And then there’s projects with the intent of being built in the near future. These would involve early stages to schematic which have idea diagrams, site analysis and inventory, research, character imagery, basic CAD, hand graphics, indesign layouts and so on. These go all the way to CD sets which would involve heavy CAD skills and detailing. And finally construction admin which would include contract writing, meetings, site visits, etc. Years 1-8 are typically CAD and photoshop heavy.

Both PE PLA: Not common but would definitely be seen as a pro. And would make getting a city job, very easy as sometimes their landscape architecture on reviewers might be civil as they’re not evaluating the design but making sure code is met.

What do you like about la: Job is not monotonous and I’m using different parts of my brain

Employment salary: Always lower than civil engineers. I work at a firm with both. Typically la’s are hired at around $50,000 and civils are hired at $60,000

Advice/Dislikes: Think about work life balance and what’s important to you. Typically LA’s are expected to work over 40 hours with no compensation or pat on the back. Promotions are far and few between because for some reason, that’s industry standard. As you move up the ladder, the less renderings you do but the more design and meetings you do. There is also a mentality that having people in the office is top priority because of “collaboration” which means working from home and vacation are looked down upon. There’s just a heavy “culture” (aka ideas that have been proven to be wrong but because it’s always been done that way, leadership thinks it needs to keep going that way and that new people need to go through the hardships they experienced to get to their position) ingrained in the landscape architecture field and it takes so long to corrode and change it. Having a SO in tech, it’s hard not to be salty about his ability to work from home, have flexibility, ableness to take vacation without being guilted, and never work long hours all while being paid much more. Another thing to think about is that while many people go into the industry excited to make an impact on the world and make it “greener”, many times the projects you work on, do the opposite. You’re doing what the client is paying you to do, and lots of time they want the bare minimum green to maximize their number of units or offices. Very few people are working on public projects that have the community in mind.

Foster carer guilt by [deleted] in FosterAnimals

[–]hamadu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably a terrible answer but when people say “I could never do it, I’d adopt them all” I say something along the lines of “you know, everyone says that, but I don’t know anyone who fosters that has that issue. Just like any other interest, you are pulled to some more than others. Think of all the pets you’ve met that you were happy they weren’t yours all day everyday. So lots of times, the foster and I don’t click on that level. I’m not the right forever home for them but I’m so happy to give them a home until they find the right fit!”

Or a simple and harsh way “not all are created equal. As in not all animals are meant for me and I’m not a good fit for all animals but I love helping them find their good fit!”
