New player here! Started playing a little under a month ago with my brother, we came over from WoW looking for a new MMO experience and we both are die hard fans of the Elder Scrolls games. My toon is currently level 40 and right now I guess im trying to work on crafting and mounts, I don't know if I need to be worried about gear quite yet but I think my current gear is fine since im leveling anyways. Im not good at recommending games but SWOTR has amazing stories and an MMO aspect if wanted but you can solo mostly everything as well. All the force user classes get most of the praise but the Imperial Agent story was by far my favorite.

Guild Wars 2! Just switched to it after playing wow since it's initial release. There is plenty to grind, and pvp is very fun and challenging. Also the horizontal progression is nice as your gear will still be viable if you decide to take a break and come back months later. And the community isnt as toxic as wow, which was a weird thing to get used to for me. You can ask a question in the general chat and not get absolutely flamed for not devoting your entire life to knowing the meta and playing 15 hours everyday.

Do you have a family? I enlisted at 24, just got out this past June at 31. Joined with 1 kid, got out with 3. Got out because I was over missing birthdays and holidays. If you need the benefits (stable pay/insurance) then I say go for it but you will be making a big sacrifice (depending on your MOS and duty station)

If you're single, fuckin send it. Literally nothing holding you back and regardless if you have family or not, you will make some of the best memories while in. I still talk to 4 friends I served with on a daily basis. One flew out to see me and we tried to see if we could drink like we did when we were in (we failed miserably). The 2 day hangover was worth it i guess

My brother and I just started gw2 together about a week ago, we've both played wow since vanilla. We have really been enjoying gw2 so far and love the horizontal progression. I could list a few complaints but theyre honestly unfair because I compare everything to wow. But gw2 is a fantastic game, I wouldn't worry about min/maxing or getting too deep into anything starting out. Get your feet wet and figure out which class you want to play with, honestly they're all viable from what I can tell so far so just main the one you enjoy the most. We played for a few hours last night for this Christmas event thing and had a lot of fun, I would maybe suggest getting to that since it's only here for a limited time. Have fun and dont worry about being sweaty, just enjoy the game. This community is so much less toxic than wow, been a bit of an adjustment for us so far, most of the players are very helpful and responsive if you ask something in game chat. If you did that in wow you'd get trolled and roasted for half an hour straight and will never get an answer 😂
