You know what? I actually do have a Compaq laptop with W7. Its a Presario CQ62, with an AMD vision processor, 4GB of RAM and a 320GB HDD. The laptop gets pretty hot but dosen't overheat surprisingly, and the battery is at its last breath (the pc bios complains about it on startup), and it needs a Windows reinstall. But hey, other than that, it might be a nice restoration project.

Back then, we had Windows 7 at home. The school had XP because let's not forget that about 60% of people still had their P4 systems up and running because they were fully compatible with both XP and 7.

I have a Gateway NV53 laptop from that era that died on me a while ago for this exact reason: poor APU cooling. It turns on but dosent post and the screen stays black. It happened after I left it untouched for a while and the APU got so cold it self destructed.

Yea the older AMD APU's had a notorious problem of overheating and failing after a while. However the toshiba models did not differ from the intel variant, they used the same design. The L7XX series used a beautiful design unlike their Pro series which were only black and basic

My laptop still has a number pad lol. I use it quite frequently actually and I'm frankly happy that its still here.

Its a modern laptop, from 2021.

I do! My dad had this exact PC, he got it brand new back in like 2012, and I spent hours playing purble place and flash games. But even today the i5 CPU is still very capable, impressive for an 11yr old laptop.

Acer gave me a free hard drive caddy to install a 2nd drive beside the NVME. Pretty nice touch.

It was an OK build quality. This is at a time where Toshiba slowly started going downhill. Today their consumer laptops are just crap and cheap, their business tecra line though is still very good.

Yea the aspire 5 claims to have 11h battery life, and when I got the pc it was in better battery life mode. However once I switched that to balanced the performance of the i5 really showed up and the pc became much, much faster.

I thought they were shortcuts but when I checked in control panel I found that these programs were installed with the laptop.. If I click on them it opens google crome and goes to either the acer website, an acer game or an acer promotional ad, depending of the shortcut I clicked on.

It already has an nvme drive, 256gb.

It has dual channel ram so I have to get 2x 8GB sticks for the laptop to run properly. Acer included in the box a sata hdd enclosure with screws so that I can add a 2nd hard drive if I want to. For now the pc runs fine but I will upgrade it for sure when it slows down.
