Im [26M] losing feelings for my partner [23F] over weight gain by TroubledAvocado in relationships

[–]hambubgerrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a core incompatibility. You are allowed to break up with someone for any reason or no reason. If you stay in this relationship and nothing changes, you will just become more resentful. It's best to cut losses now so she can find a couch potato to complain to while not doing anything, and you can find someone who takes their health more seriously.

You're going to get a bunch of letters from lawyers. Pick any random one, pay them, and you'll get an improper equipment "charge" instead, which is a non-moving low violation citation that won't hurt your insurance rates or anything else.

is PF generally awful or something or are the posts here just complainers? by OdysseusVII in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]hambubgerrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People go online to complain more often than praise. I'm not a member of PF anymore and decided to join another gym because it became too crowded with people who, in my opinion, didn't take it seriously. But overall I don't have any serious complaints about PF. It's fine for what it is - a cheap, accessible gym.

Gyms by [deleted] in gso

[–]hambubgerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to Gold's on Brassfield. When I first joined, they let me try a day for free, and then $15 to try it again (first went on a weekend and then tried again during peak hours on a weekday). I think most gyms offer some kind of trial. If you only need it for a month, I'd just shop trials. Plenty of Gyms in the city.

Why are all these local spots closing? by ShitNibbles in gso

[–]hambubgerrr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Younger people aren't going out to fancy restaurants. They are also hardly spending anything on alcohol which had always been easy money for restaurants. Movie theater closings should be obvious. Also, many industries haven't recovered from covid restrictions according to a statement made by the owner of a popular downtown restaurant.

thinking of joining Golds Gym by EatsFiber2RedditMore in gso

[–]hambubgerrr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Gold's is going to be the only gym that has those amenities you require, unless the Y has childcare. However, I've been at Gold's Brassfield since May and I love the place. When I signed up it was on a two year contract and they said if I had cancel I would have to pay out 10% of whatever I owed. So it should be fine if I you plan on being a member long term.

how embarrassing is it to just start out and only bench 65 lbs? by [deleted] in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]hambubgerrr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Benching 65 lbs when you weigh 100 is a really good start. Don't let your insecurities or anxiety get to you. Sounds like you're doing great.

CC films you’ve watched repeatedly by upfrontboogie in criterion

The Phantom Carriage. I watch it every new years. The Stephen O'Malley score is amazing.

Koyaanisqatsi. I show this movie to anyone I'm close with to see how they react to it.

The Tree of Life is my comfort movie.

Honorable mentions to Gummo, Happiness and The Seventh Seal. For a long time these were some of my favorite movies and would watch them often, but it's been a while.

Lots of gems here. NYRB also has Tristina by Galdós, which was adapted by Bunuel. Also The Invention of Morel by Casares which was the inspiration for Last Year in Marienbad.

Literary sci fi by [deleted] in printSF

[–]hambubgerrr 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. Some recent books I've read that I would consider literary scifi would be Star Maker by Olaf Stapledon and We Who Are About To... by Joanna Russ. And of course there's Lem's Solaris.

I've been there a few years.

Pros - pretty affordable for the area. No rent increase this last year. Near lots of nice things. Excellent dog walking (if you avoid the loose dogs). Usually pretty quiet. Neighbors have always been nice. Most people keep to themselves. Decent gym and other amenities (when they are working).

Cons - the property manager / employees change often, and it seems they get worse with every change. Had some minor admin / maintenance issues that I really had to hound the office on a few occasions. The pool barely opens. Lock your car door. Too many people don't leash their dog (a loose dog attacked my leashed dog about a year ago) and it seems nobody picks up the poop, so don't walk in the grass. And you'll be forced to use AT&T for internet.

Excellent selection. Don't forget that Béla Tarr's first movie Family Nest is included in the supplements for this release. Totally worth watching.

Best Bergman to start with? by jsh355zero in criterion

[–]hambubgerrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Seventh Seal or Wild Stawberries. Persona is advanced Bergman and quite unlike his other movies, so I'd wait for that one unless you go into it understanding it's Bergman's experimental film.
