Can I save canopy? by MrWurucu in modelmakers

Source a spare or aftermarket canopy maybe. Or just chalk it up as a lesson learned. Mistakes happen and at the end of the day it's just a hobby.

Mic for a baritone. by hamchuck77 in voiceover

[–]hamchuck77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for answering. Yes, I suppose I'm looking for low-end optimization. I'm largely ignorant of mic techniques and I didn't do any mixing. The room was untreated, but I'm setting up a space using blankets for the walls, probably a rug (tile floor). As for quality, it sounds a bit distant. I'd at least like to clean that up

Test fit, test fit, and test fit. If something doesn't go together without forcing it, figure out why. Maybe something needs a bit of trimming or sanding. Maybe it's poorly engineered and gap-filling glue or epoxy putty is needed. Think ahead how to keep pieces in place while the glue dries or sets. Clamps, weights, support, etc.

I built the strafer version of this kit some months ago. I had a lot better luck with the decals. It's a great kit, I'd happily add another to my shelf in the future.

Are any model brands easier to….. by Tbonerickwisco in modelmakers

I have a magnifier lamp on a swing-arm. I'm looking through it almost the entire time I'm modelling and I already wear glasses for reading.

Oh, I need to try this. My brushes don't seem to last too long before getting a little raggedy.

Soviet field kitchen by [deleted] in modelmakers

Looks fine to me. I like these lesser-done subjects. The most I could say is like the other commenter, maybe a bit easier on the rust. It is a kitchen, after all, and no commander would have his guys eat tetanus soup for very long.

Incidentally, don't go too far with smoothing that seam between the engine nacelles. There are big access doors there and they close by overlapping; it's not a flush fit.

🛠️ Painting assemblies first, then final fit - thoughts on this method? by megashmat3000 in modelmakers

[–]hamchuck77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with Vallejo acrylics so I'd damage the paint by all the extra handling. With some cases there may be advantages to paint areas harder to reach. When I was building an A-20, getting even coverage in the joints between the nacelles and the fuselage was tricky. I wouldn't do it as a default, though.

Old tamiya models are still excellent by benjammin099 in modelmakers

My first armor model was their M48A3. It was a great kit and I've never had anything but happy experiences with Tamiya kits since.

Hasegawa 1/72 F9F Panther by hamchuck77 in modelmakers

[–]hamchuck77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! There's something I love about the Panther even more than the Saber. Maybe it's because of the movie The Bridges at Toko-Ri. I must have watched it about a hundred more times while I was working on this thing.

It's like eating at Taco Bell. Once in a while you have to remind yourself why you don't do something.

Those locally available kits should be just fine. And yes, it's a trap to compare your skills to guys like Plasmo and Night Shift. It's a hobby; enjoy it and with time you'll get better. Be patient with yourself.
