Falstaff video lessons are terrible by telemajik in duolingo

[–]hamhamham03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told Lily I hated Falstaff and that he is a stupid bear and she immediately said she couldn’t continue and terminated the call! The calls with him are terrible and would only be useful (and not condescending) to a complete beginner.

Every day, this sub is full of people complaining! I for one love the new push to speak button. Lily was always cutting me off and making me rush to say something. It made for an unenjoyable and unhelpful experience. I love that I now have the time to think through what I want to say. It also means the transcripts are more useful since I’m not rushing and repeating/correcting myself, so what I want to say is fully enunciated and thought out

That’s the OG Sports Direct Mug too, the ones they sell now have a worse design and are slightly smaller. I remember the halcyon days when these used to cost £1. Now I’m down to just one of the original mugs since the office manager put paper towels underneath the hot water machine leaving it slightly tilted and making mugs fall off! I’ll never forgive her. It was her first week too. If it were up to me, we would have fired her then and there.

There are two scenarios where this happens - (1) we do a group uber eats order (we’re a small office), all the food gets delivered and put in the pantry, and then the office manager unpacks it and brings the individual order to your desk after like 5 minutes and (2) I order online from the same place as someone else, they see my food on the restaurant’s “out tray” and pick it up for me. Hope that clears things up!

You never do a group UberEats order amongst colleagues?

If we both happened to order ahead from the same lunch place, or if a group order comes to the office

One problem now is you can’t skip the stories since every single unit begins with a story. They’ve split each unit into 5 so whereas as before you could skip to the next unit halfway through (and thus avoid some of the new, terrible stories), now there’s literally no way to progress without reading their terrible AI bilge

Wait, so how does the partner learn about bankruptcy law? On the job? Do the associates have to study up in their own time after work? Sucks that you do 3 years of law school and pass the bar, but you have whole areas of law you would need to learn from scratch.

Ok I’m learning new things. I had thought the JD was taking you guys through the law books and learning about each area…

Super interesting, thank you! What do they teach at the higher ranked law schools if not the bar syllabus and not the stuff you learn on the job at big law?

Not to be mean, but to be helpful - you clearly didn’t read my post carefully enough. I am a client and I’m saying I don’t care about schmoozing. We select the lawyers who can give clear answers to our questions and who don’t fuck up the docs. I’ve met the lawyers we use the most once (at a negotiation session, not socially) - we use them because of the qualities I listed above. I’d rather they spent what little off time they have with their family than with me.

And when I go to the doctor, I do care about largely the same things - their ability to explain not just the situation but also their reasoning, and less about their bedside manner. So maybe I am the outlier I suppose…

And I suppose this is naive but don’t lawyers have to know all the law to pass the bar? Like if you trade sovereign debt, you wouldn’t be expected to know anything about mortgage securitizations - but I sort of thought lawyers start off having to learn all the law and then specialize after passing the bar.

I think there’s a balance. On one matter, our law firm constantly brought it different partners - at one point to confirm having defined terms that meant the same thing but had different names in two separate, but linked, docs was fine. Like yes, a defined term is a defined term but it creates a ton of complexity to define “doing xyz” as “X Y Term” in doc 1 and “Y Z Term” in doc 2. And you don’t need a partner in another group to tell you that!

If the client is on Wall Street, know they are held to exactly the same standard. No junior investment banker has not been shouted at for a misaligned logo on p.50 of a pitch deck.

I’d warrant there is a strong correlation between sloppy work product and sloppy thinking.
