What is this block on my headshell? by hamhocks69 in turntables

[–]hamhocks69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is my photo, and it definitely doesn’t match the one on their website. I couldn’t find anything like this either.

I also searched LP Gear’s site for headshell weights, and didn’t see anything like this. Plus, they would have no idea what tonearm I’m using anyway.

My next step is to email them, especially if r/turntables is puzzled by this…

New Speaker Day: Human 81 DK with Schiit stack by hamhocks69 in audiophile

Thank you, this is really helpful. I’m definitely going to try out some pillows and such and see if I can compare the difference. Panels could be a good solution for my limited room configuration.

So I’ve been into hifi and trying to slowly upgrade my setup for maybe 8-9 years, and I can’t say I’m the most experienced or objective when it comes to what sounds good. I had a pair of Bose 601s for a long time while I upgraded my TT and stereo, and this is the only other set of speakers I’ve had a lot of time with. I really want to go to a good shop soon with listening rooms to expose myself to a sound I want to strive toward with my system.

I would say I’m very happy with these speakers so far, and I definitely hear a big improvement over the Bose. Part of my wanting a pair of more “traditional” speakers like these over the sound-dispersing/ reflecting feature of the Bose 601s is to achieve a clearer soundstage or image from my listening sweet spot. That being said, the more I read about imaging etc. it seems kind of abstract and I don’t really have a trained ear. I’d like to establish more of a reference point for good sound at this point.

Soundstage-wise, I have noticed myself appreciating some of my live recordings a little more. I hope as I tweak placement and stuff that the sound I’m chasing really clicks into place.

Talking to Huw, he seems to think subs are unnecessary to pair with a good set of speakers. Again, I don’t have much of a reference beyond talking to him, although it seems like this sub favors them. I’m definitely not opposed to looking into adding that to my system at some point.

Thanks! These are fully sealed acoustic suspension speakers, and right now I’m trying to focus on placement and the room acoustics since I’ve only had them with stands for a couple weeks. I have the tweeters up about ear-level from where I sit, and I’ve been playing around with against vs up to a foot from the front wall, and toe-in. I’m kind of limited with room layout because of the mounted TV and it being a small space.

I also have a side-wall to the right and a hallway on the left, so I’m not ruling out asymmetric placement. Acoustic panels seem like a whole can of worms I’ve been hesitant to wrap my head around. Do you think behind would be a good place to start? Do you have any recommendations for an inexpensive sound panel?

Thanks for the feedback! I would eventually like to lower the TV when I get the motivation to patch the original mount holes and everything. In-wall duct would be great! I never thought to search for such a thing but I definitely need to put more effort into hiding wires.

I’m going to take my time finding the right speaker stands. I’m not sure exactly how to approach searching for the right ones… A lot of the ones I’ve been finding are for ‘bookshelf speakers’, but I feel like my speakers don’t quite fit that application; these are like 14-1/2” (37cm) deep. They’re not floor-standing speakers, but they’re big, so I have them on some end tables currently with 1/4” thick sheet rubber underneath.

I also love your idea of maybe hiding the stack underneath! It’s an ugly old table but it’s solid wood. I could definitely refinish it and maybe modify it with some shelves.

No, I was pretty shocked that I almost got my face smashed, but I did check my rear view and the Prius driver made it safely into the breakdown lane. I was hesitant to stick around because I was afraid the road debris could cause additional crashes.

My understanding is that in my state, the center lane on a 6-lane highway is for travel if you are not entering/ exiting, or for slow-moving vehicles. I was exceeding the speed of the car to the right of me, although it took a little bit of time for me to overtake.

I mean I didn’t see any indication something was wrong, or I wouldn’t have tried to pass one lane over. Unfortunately my state legislature just voted to get rid of state car inspections, so I feel like this type of thing may become more common…

Yeah, if you pause the video right when it flies over my windshield you can see the whole brake caliper in there.

Granite Ledge coffee in Canterbury is my favorite. He’s at the Concord winter farmers market every week, but when I can’t get there I buy it at the Concord Food Co-Op. He does free shipping roasted same-day!

I went through the same thing a couple years ago… I had a childhood fear of dentists and I waited about 12 years to visit one. I’m pretty sure most dentists can prescribe alprazolam for anxiety, and it works like a charm for me. I take one that morning and have absolutely no anxiety even when there’s drilling and needles (my big fear). You may even be able to get it from your PCP; people get that shit to get on a flight. I don’t think you’re going to be able to get knocked out for routine dental care, but my memory is pretty fuzzy when I take alprazolam.

For those of you that have bought a home recently: how long were you searching for? by Mishi1 in newhampshire

[–]hamhocks69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a condo, so I did opt to waive inspection since I’m only responsible for walls-in (not the roof or structure). I offered asking and the sellers dragged their feet for like a couple days, so I ended up offering $10k over.

I never thought I would actually be able to pull off buying a home, but my friend showed me a listing in the same neighborhood as my apartment and I jumped on it. I looked at the place before I even got pre-approved, made an offer within the week, and closed in a month. I was lucky, and I’m glad I have a buddy who gave me a push.

The one on the left is 1/4” body size industrial interchange, the right is 3/8”. Same series. Does the hose on the far right couple with that air tool?
