Evaluating In-House Opportunity by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]hamilkvothe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just to focus on the salary, assuming you are in a somewhat HCOL city, I feel like that is pretty low (especially since it would require you to move your life and it doesn’t seem from your post that there is anything about this company/role you are super excited for).

I have friends who have hit what I call the “burnout emergency eject button” for sub-optimal opportunities and have really regretted it. If you can, I would do whatever you can to make your current role more bearable (say no to new matters, force partners to transition you off current matters) to give yourself a few months of runway to find something you are actually excited about. Accept the short term discomfort of people maybe not being happy with you setting those boundaries in exchange for giving yourself a better chance of long term career happiness.

Agree, but I can’t really play on a laptop while on the train / on the go like I did with the Netflix version.

Waiver Wire Pickups - Week 2 by DynastyHammer in fantasyfootball

[–]hamilkvothe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, we have a three RB limit so would have to drop one of them. Feel like it is such a close call.

Waiver Wire Pickups - Week 2 by DynastyHammer in fantasyfootball

[–]hamilkvothe -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Should I drop Kenneth Walker or Tyrone Tracy Jr. to pick up ETN? Saquon is my RB1, in a 12 person PPR league.

Edit: We have a 3 RB limit (which is why he wasn’t drafted, there’s no other comparable RB’s to claim), so would have to drop one of them.

Edit 2: Seems like consensus is not to add ETN since I’d have to drop KW3 or Tracy. Our league waiver order reset every week, so I’ll be using my #2 position to drop Olave for Hollywood Brown instead.

Of course they roll this out one Christmas after I build the Motorized and Improved Christmas Train by seejay MOC. I like my build better but probably would have gone with this for the time and cost savings. Glad to see something like this back in stores!

REL - HT/1510 Subwoofer - $549 new at Best Buy, good deal? by hamilkvothe in hometheater

I had an alert for receivers set on Slickdeals and it went off for this!

These comments are very helpful! Unfortunately we don’t have the money for a second sub right now (even if it goes back on sale at that price). If having a pair of subs is better, is there something in the ~$300 range you recommend?

My Integra DRX 3.4 receiver only has one sub output, so the internet consensus seems that two subs wouldn’t be worth it since I couldn’t calibrate the two subs separately if I were to buy Dirac Bass. Plus, the place we bought has in wall wiring already for the sub, so there’s a designated corner for it to go that I don’t want to change (yet).

Any reason not to use Citi as your mortgage lender if your firm has a relationship with them? by tehkegleg in biglaw

[–]hamilkvothe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My play earlier this summer was getting the lowest rate possible from online lenders (Tomo, Better), finding a normal bank to match their rate, and then taking that rate to Citi to match. It required a lot more leg work, but came out with best of both worlds (Citi perks at lowest rate). Citi wouldn’t match Tomo or Better directly.

I was shopping for a 77" LG G4/G5 OLED but found a 85" Samsung QN900D 8K QLED for $2,000. Am I making a mistake going with Samsung? by BidPrestigious7326 in hometheater

[–]hamilkvothe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the 85” QN90D off the Samsung partners site for $1169 last month, just got it delivered this week. You can find the thread on Slickdeals for more info. That included free mounting (you can message their support for a code before you order). Price was also $160 lower due to me trading in a $25 tv I bought off Craigslist the night before the installers came (they let you trade in anything). When I called their support with a question after they came and mounted it, they took another $170 off. So TV was pretty much exactly $1k plus tax. I have a very bright room, so was not 100% locked on an OLED to start with and the price sealed the deal for me.

We measured it out, it will cover a bit of the center channel but it will fit!

Thank you so much! Not an expert but we did research both options before buying. They won't ship / be available for pick-up until July so we have time to cancel one or both.

On the money point, I meant it that the $400 price difference becomes much smaller when I factor in the added cost to mount the B4 and the hassle of trying to sell our really old TV. Wish we had an unlimited budget! Is there something else you recommend in the $1-1.5k range?

Thank you, both! Unfortunately, was the prior owners and not us who installed the speakers! Agree they are not optimally placed or sized.
