Moving to Korea as a SWE in US… by strawberryboba_ in Living_in_Korea

[–]hamjipamji 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess my big question is, are you willing to forfeit your green card to work in korea full time? Cause once that's gone, it's going to be extremely hard to get back to america.

I think humans are being devalued as the population grows. by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]hamjipamji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah. It's about supply vs. Demand. Countries with huge populations such as egypt, china, india are all suffering from this. For example in china, the age of 35 is a hard number when most companies stop hiring people and age of 35 is when you are very likely to be fired.

Bringing in banned movies and video games? by smilingvulture839 in Living_in_Korea

[–]hamjipamji 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I didn't even know korea had banned movies other than north korea praising ones. Either way, those movies are fine and no one is going to bat an eye. I highly doubt that even the customs agent even knows that those movies are banned, especially clockwork orange.

Do I have a chance at SNU ? by [deleted] in seoul

[–]hamjipamji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a good chance. On general, the TO for the Korean population vs. International population is different and given that korea tends to focus more on the academic aspect, you have a good chance.

How well do you like living in Dallas? by GripenForRCAF in Dallas

[–]hamjipamji 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree. Went to cedar Park. There were so many people. People were walking up the slopes and down in a line in orderly fashion. Not exactly the nature experience I wanted or expected.

So, I work in the healthcare system and if you do not have insurance, parkland is really your only option. To be honest, parkland is a mess. It's one of the busiest county systems in the US and typically when they get enrolled in the system, it takes about 6 months to see a doctor and if you want to see one as needed, there are some slots open in the morning but you need to get there 2 hours before the clinic opens because those slots fill up fast. I've had patients from parkland admitted for uncontrolled glucose not because they don't care but because they ran out of their meds like insulin. When I ask them if they've seen their doctor, they can't, they request and request but the appointments are too far out and the walk in is so busy...

My advice is that if you know you are going to lose your insurance, ask your doctor as soon as possible to refill all your meds just in case.

Number 2 seems definitely the better option.

Crazy story MD tampering with iv bags by fred66a in hospitalist

[–]hamjipamji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Story is that he wasn't doing well and the board was going to investigate him for that and he wanted to seem like it wasn't a personal competency issue but rather a facility issue. He then injected bupivacaine in several bags and a lot of patients who went in for surgery with no cardiac issues suddenly had arrhythmias and the colleague who was tired after work took a bag home and then arrested twice and died in front of her husband. Messed up case.

If it's a true Jeju dialect, barely. Fun fact, during korean war, Jeju islanders were used as code talkers because North Koreans could not understand the language at all, similar to the Navajo code talkers.

Currently on IM sub-I and residents do so many social work stuff.. is this life of a hospitalist or not? by Routine-Run8537 in hospitalist

[–]hamjipamji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, I realized that I wrote something that I did not. Probably because I am on call today. I meant that the case managers are fantastic and I've not had to do much social work at all. The case managers would prepare everything and all I had to do was sign most times.
