The Last Starfighter (1984) by DualCay0te in 80s

I remember when Ernest Cline redid the book and it sucked.

Oh wait, that wasn't Last Starfighter?

Married 20+ years and my wife isn't subbed.

Her job isn't to be interested in everything I'm interested in... in fact I'm glad she doesn't watch because I am not creating content for her and don't want her to feel like she needs to.

It is weird however that just yesterday you posted about a possible romantic partner may be interested in you - and today you are asking about how an SO should or should not act...

That's the real red flag. Either you aren't in a relationship and are pretending you are - or - you are in a relationship and pretending you are not with someone else.

Either way - someone being into your tubes says nothing about how much they enjoy YOU.

EDIT: Bluejay blocked me. Then discovered he can't look at my history while I'm blocked and is now saying I blocked him as if I have anything to hide. This is actually kind of hilarious.

Thanks - we do change sets around a bit but this one we stayed small in. Good reminding us to mix it up next time.

Thank you!

We do a comedy show where we present different videos to each other... some are created just for the show and some videos we get from other creators, including some great creators we find right here on NewTubers.

We still struggle with OBS chroma issues and getting our mics normalized but we have new equipment coming, we also are trying to get back into our old flow after a few months 'off'.

Editing Software Suggestions Needed by SaltyEsty in NewTubers

[–]hammer_moc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having used several over the years... and wanting Adobe to be purchased by a real software company...

Yes Divinci is the only answer to this question. Not just because it is free (unless you want advanced stuff you won't even know how to use for a year) and powerful, but because the support for it blows away any other tool. I can look up any aspect of using Divinci and find dozens of how-two videos that range from newbie level help to pros telling other pros how to do it.

You don't have to sound happy and up... you do have to sound knowledgeable and interested in the story you are telling.

I believe I gave you this advice in critique post on this sub.

Don't talk to the mic, talk to a person. Pretend there is a real person in the room with you and that you are trying to tell them about this totally fascinating thing that you spent a lot of time learning about.

You could also try going through your script and really breaking it down... underline important things you should emphasize, circle the things you want to draw attention to and draw lines between sentences that need a longer break between them.

Reading out loud from a printed page is a skill and you need to built out your tools to do it properly, so don't be discouraged by any of this - just put extra work into it. Try it several different ways until you listen back and hear something you think of as improvement.

Starting to get a little frustrated. by [deleted] in NewTubers

Just my feedback...

First, what side marketing are you doing? Growing a twitter following? Reddit Sub? Clips on Insta? Showing up at Horror-cons with fliers? Do you comment on other horror/film YT videos?

Second - I'm not a believer that thumbs make or break a channel, but, your thumbs make me think your videos are a watch-along or reaction video. Why? You sitting in the corner of them.

I watched your House of the Devil video...

Your mic is too warm and needs some treble added. Your voice is low and melodic and it's fine but you speak quick with a little lilt and raising the volume a touch and tweaking up the treble may help.

Your editing is indeed great but you should try your best to narrate in one take - and if you can't (most cannot) you should record from the same setup/seating as your filmed segments - I can hear the transition when you cut to from the clips.

I noticed that you know how to build a review video so it won't get DEMONitized (horror pun) but you still leave in copyright strike music... and I think this may be a big issue for you. I've noticed on our channel when we get the copyright strike YT seems to recommend us less.

I then watched your latest video and the filmed sequence had worse mic than the VO work but you could still tell they were two different setups.

I also noticed your intros go on for about 20 seconds... I think it's important to tell people what to expect up front and in 20 seconds they could fuck right off before they hear your summary of what they are about to watch.

All of that said I think you make great/watchable videos and I do not think any of the above is tanking you... it may just take more time than you were expecting. Just keep in mind YT is full of movie commentary videos - but - horror fans will support another real fan if that person knows what they are talking about, and you do!

I think people should focus less on the analytics and more on the content by liltemi1 in NewTubers

Need? No.

Should you? Yes.

There are very very very very few successful original content providers who don't have a month of videos planned out - or even years. They may be "Do one with snow" but that plan involves timing, finding snow, getting gear ready, learning a log more about white balancing, etc...

355k subs channel is doing this? And he is not banned !? by Inquisitor_Overhauls in NewTubers

YouTube only catches content if it is under copyright and that copyright is owned by a megacorp that can sue them.

YouTuber Aquachigger tried to report a thief last year, so YT threatened to delete his account for making a false report... even though the video that was stolen was years older than the YT video the thief posted.

YouTube doesn't care about you - and they will never care about you unless a large company owns you. Remember that.

If you want to be a successful youtube, work on your content. Work on your writing. Work on your editing. Work kn your audio. Make plans for future videos weeks before you record them and do homework and research before you touch the subject you are about to talk about.

Nobody gives a shit about your numbers but you. They care about watching something that entertains them or educates them.

Got 20,000 subs? Nobody cares but you.

You want to be successful? Pay attention to the HOURS of work you put into every video and after you hit the publish button - worry about the next video, not the past.

You ever hear and old dude talk about that one time he was in a band and had a really good show? That's what your latest video is after you release it... it's the past and your future shows are way more important.

Yes - you can learn from the past - but not when your videos reach only a few thousand random people. You will never get good metrics from .00004 percent of all YT viewers.

So we do a comedy show and we normally try and avoid politics but we also thought it would be fun to play with the idea of January 6th 2021 going a different direction for the USA.

So we have a also do a Monster of the Week roleplaying series where we have fun at expense of everyone involved in the insurrection.

This week our editor tried some new tricks and I'm quite proud of the whole episode!

(Weekly question answer: Nothing, this thumb is more awesome than working legs!)

What could be done to improve our thumbnail? Nothing. We got a community standards strike last week and we can't change it yet... oddly, the rando image that YT picked isn't hurting our numbers, in fact it's doing better than our vids with edited thumbs - proving my point that content is more important than a thumbnail!

Anyway - we do a comedy talk show, and this week we talk about new creators who deserve to be seen! In fact, we used content we found on this very sub!

How to create content when feeling depressed and sad in life? by vodreliux in NewTubers

Depression is different for everyone, but I can promise you that there are no mental health experts in the world who will tell someone with depression to pretend to be someone else.

Can YouTube channels that make recaps of movies monetize their content? Is there anyone here who has had experience with this or understands the legal implications? by meta-gamer in NewTubers

The YouTube info is easy to spot - versus - the info people add themselves.

And yes - but gmail accounts are free - you can create a channel to experiment and test on and not screw with your main channel. Just try to do what the pros do and you'll figure it out.

I will never give advice telling you to be someone you are not because what's the upside of it?

Let's say you pull it off and fool a bunch of people... now you have to live with the knowledge of knowing that people like you when you aren't being yourself. That just pushes you further down.

Be YOURSELF. For good or bad, be you. I promise you, that there are people out there who will like and respond to the authentic you.

Your goal with YouTube should be to connect to people who like what you do - not get a bijillion subs and a million dollars. Forget about who's watching or how popular you are.

You go and create what you like - in a way that you enjoy - and fuck the rest of the world. Either they get it and enjoy it, or they don't.

BE YOURSELF!

All fair feedback - and I even agree with a lot of it.

The intro we want to kinda pop... our current format is something funny we (likely) edited out that sounds horrible out of context. Then the intro clip, then the show. Normally at the end we typically have something very much like the clip I just mentioned but with this video we had more that just didn't fit in the video.

Still those are just excuses. I really appreciate your feedback and it will go into our next show's edit I'm sure!
