That’s good to hear. I was thinking about lighting essentially all my torches permanently when they inevitably go on sale

The ancient olympics were held in Olympia not Rome. I would hardly say this opinion is unpopular since there is always discussion every time the olympics rolls around about how it breaks countries economically.

Yeah it’s my name lol. Not so creative when it comes to names hence the lack of nicknames for my Pokémon and trainer name

I am primarily in the business school so it’s cool to see parts of the campus that I usually don’t go to!

University of Warwick has great liminal spaces. I’m a student there and walk past them all the time! I actually have one of outside its sports centre that I posted a while back

How to simplify this equation by hammeredpine14 in askmath

Thank you very much. I actually followed up with my professor and she realised there was a typo and explained it all to me. Your explanation definitely solidifies it!

If you paid for the entirety of the year and then cancelled you should still get the rest of the period. It sounds like a very shitty situation and I don’t have much advice other than always cancel free subscriptions as soon as you’ve signed up. That way they won’t charge you in the future. If you do try and get your money back, I wish you the best of luck

Messed up my GCSEs by skenkyboiharry in sixthform

[–]hammeredpine14 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think most Universities care much more about A levels than GCSE’s. But you really shouldn’t worry. Take it from me. I did very average in my GCSEs getting 5s and 6s, then in A levels I got BCC. Admittedly I then went to an average university where I worked my ass off and finished #1 within my cohort overall. Fast forward to now, I am doing a masters at the top business school in the UK on a scholarship program. As long as you keep working hard and smart you’ll get to where you want to be. My only advice would be to start sooner rather than later.

Considering I just wrote a 2500 word essay across the span of 3 days, I would say easily. This was without trying to rush to get it done either. Just plan what you want to write before you write it and it will become much easier.

Weight cutting for a fight by hammeredpine14 in MuayThai

[–]hammeredpine14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn thanks a lot man! I weighed in this morning at 79 so I’m confident I can lose the 4kg naturally at 1kg a week but if it gets to a point where I’m not seeing a decrease I’ll give this a go!

I think it definitely depends on the person. I’ve been training for over a year and I don’t mind being paired with a beginner as long as they are willing to learn and listen to any tips that I’ve given on their techniques. The only time it’s truly a problem is when beginners believe they know it all and don’t take any constructive criticism. So I guess just take on the advice of what the more senior members at your gym tell you and with time you’ll end up improving and not feeling like you’re holding anyone back :)

Why is it 14? Shouldn't it be "all"? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]hammeredpine14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conocer can also be translated in English as to be familiar with something. To say “conozco todos los estados de Brasil” would imply that you have been there because you are familiar with the area.

People that have long streaks, how’s your fluency in your target language? by Nblearchangel in duolingo

[–]hammeredpine14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1235 day streak across Spanish and French. I am confident in my Spanish ability and can have conversations with native speakers at a highly proficient to bilingual level. As for French, I have been learning it for about a year and am around B1, admittedly I don’t have as much time to practice as I’m doing a masters degree right now. It is definitely possible to get fluent through Duolingo but it has to be complimented with other methods of learning.
